I've done a search on the subject and can't come up with anything. Has anyone done this using Junk-Yard parts. I know that Stainless Steele Brake Corp. carries both front & rear upgrade kits for the 4th Gen. Rear starts at $710.00 . I'm trying to find a cheaper way to do this and yet keep my American Racing Outlaw II 15" rims. Some are talking about the "LS1 Rears" but arn't those 12" rotors which would require a 16" rim?

Bill,
I had a friend buy the brackets fro Baer. I don't know why they wouldn't sell them to me but they would to him, I think because he has their full rear kit. Anyway, if you know anyone who can cut 1/4" steel plate (maybe it is 3/16, I'll check), o make a bracket to bolt to the rearend flange & hold the caliper. I then found 93-97 F body calipers from the junk yarf for $25, and ordered new 94 Vette rear rotors for $50 each & put it together. I also had to get the shock relocation brackets from Baer, these are 1/4". I had to make new steel lines that have the metric fitting on one end & I flared the english flare on the other end. Let me know if you want more information.

Scot, I've been meaning to get back with you. I stay pretty busy during the school year, and since my boss has me teaching Small Engines for the first time in a number of years, I haven't had much extra time at all. I'm intersted in the swap, and checked out your web site. I noticed your drawings and wondered how you did them. I've got another pet project and it will call for a CAD or CAM design. I really don't know how to get started. I've got an idea for a device and need to be able to design it and then have it machined. Any advice.

Scot, I've been looking over at the F-Body ThirdGen Site, one of the articles shows the use of a factory mounting braket for rear disc brakes about 3/4's the way down the page. Take a look and see what you think.

It would be a whole lot easier then fabing your own. This setup seems to fit the 15" stock setup. I don't see why it wouldn't work with mine. Thinking about it , these are the same calipers you used. What was the reason behind using the 94 Vette rotors?

Well, this setup is pretty much the same thing as what I have except the bolt pattern on the Monte rear (& I think all 78+ G bodies) has a large hole centered at the top & two small holes on the bottom side. Not the 4 around the perimeter like the F body. The Vette rear rotors have a shallower backspacing than the F body. That is what Baer uses with their kit & it is what works with their bracket. I work on those pics for you.

That's strange, I thought all the housings had the flange with 4 bolt holes just different spacing between bolts. That shows you how much I know. :-D Since mine is an A-Body and has a mounting simillar to that of the F-Body would it be easier to go that route? I'll have to check the backspacing on my axle and compare it to both the F & G Bodys to determine which way to go.

Absolutely, if yours has the 4 bolt flange then you might be able to use the F body factory bracket. When GM switched to rear disks on the F body, they didn't change the axle flange, what they did was make a bracket to mount to it that the caliper mounts to. Yours may be the same, or you might be able to use it as a guide to drill new holes in your flange. Seems like I saw one in the junk yard a week or so back. I'll see if I can find you one. Then you would have to figure out if the backspacing of which rotor will work for you. Why don't you email me directly at smckitt@verizon.net
