I hardly know anything about brakes, but maybe something's wrong with the power brakes and you're not getting any help from the car. I dunno? :? Could be...maybe?

I had the same poblem before, i changed the booster and master cylinder and the problem was fixed also check your wheel cylinders Its probably one of the three above..

There is a check valve in the power brake booster where the vacuum line plugs into the unit. Sometimes though, the check valve is in the vacuum line itself. Replace that valve before doing anything else. It costs only a couple of bucks and could solve the problem.

I have seen absolutely crazy and unexplainable things as a result of a bad check valve. Years ago, I experienced this failure and the durn vehicle acted like there was no power boost at all. Might be your problem.

In this instance, dishonest mechanics like to remove the power boost unit, spray paint it, replace the valve and charge the customer for a new power boost unit!

check your vacuum hose from your brake master boost cylinder that goes into you intake manifold or carb. just check the hose for any cracks.

Hey 85meno, I just remembered the vacuum reservoir module can affect how your power brakes work. My 86 has a round vacuum reservoir module located at the left front area of the engine compartment. It is somewhat larger than a softball and has a vacuum line from the intake manifold to the unit. Once upon a time, the reservoir on my truck collapsed. As a result, it did not have much capacity and my power brakes functioned sporatically until I replaced the unit. Also, when looking at that module, be sure the vacuum hose is fully connected and make sure the hose is not split and leaking.
