Tonight when I got in the Elky and put my key in the switch, I noticed that it is loose and sticking out from the column about 1/2". Can anyone tell me how to tighten it back up? I looked in my assembly manual and if it is there then I overlooked it. My turn signal switch on the left is a little loose and now the ignition switch. I have visions of it falling out when I pull the key out next time. Thanks, Bonnie

messing with the steering column is kind of tricky. but if u have a good memory and can remember how u took it apart and do that backwards then you'll be fine. u need a steering wheel puller(harmonic balancer puller) and a lock plate remover. after u remove the steering wheel and the lock plate just start unscrewing the turn signal assembly and see why it's lose. then removing the rest to get to the ignition switch gets a little tricky depending on the year.

Bonnie,
I am a retired Locksmith near you in Pittsburg CA.
Being as such, I have worked on more cars of that year group than I want to admit at my age.
The only thing that holds the Ing. Cylinder into place for that year (69) is a spring loaded retainer located on the rear of the Cylinder and KEY assy.
To be honest, I don't see how it can come out at all even a ½ inch. IF the Cylinder were to come loose, the entire assy. would come out into your hand wnen you remove the key. This is one for the Tech. Books if this is the case.
I do believe you, when you say it did, I jsut don't understand how it can come loose without comming out in your hand.
However, IF I were you, I would replace the Cylinder and Key assy. with a new one. The factory Cylinder was make by Briggs and Straton. But there are many after market locks that will do the same job jsut as well. They jsut slip into position when you get the old one out without any other retaining screws, ect needed.
Good luck,

James, Thank you for your information and advice. Perhaps the lock will come out in my hand, but I was very careful when I removed the key. It was dark and I didn't want it to fall out. Today, when I get up my nerve, I will see if it drops out in my hand. Bonnie
