Tried this in suspensions....might be best here.

Hi... I have come across a 12-bolt differential for a 68 Camino project I am working on. I'm having trouble de-coding the thing as to ratio,proper date and the like. I am especially not sure of the "K" that shows up at the end of the script and what year it may pertain to.

The numbers are in this order and position on the axle.

CH 0311 k
E

The axle casting number is 3959038 and currently has a 4:56 gearset in it. Thank you in advance for any direction or assistance you can provide. Glenn

CH 0311 k
E

CH = Positraction 2.73 ration
03 = March
11= 11th day of the month
K = would be the plant, I'm just "assuming" here, but I would think it would be the Kansas City, MO plant.

Not sure of the last "E"... so I won't even guess.

Hope it helps. If I'm wrong, someone here will correct me.

Oh yea.... Welcome to ECC / NECOA Glenn. This is the best place on the 'net for Elky fans and you've found a home here. :cool:

K when used on a rear end would be GM of Canada

E stands for Eaton, the posi manufacturer.

K - GM of Canada, St Catherines (still in operation today)

Hi Guys ....me again:

Appreciate everyone figuring this thing out for me. Is there a way to ascertain what year the axle pertains to with the given information? Or is there somewhere to look to find the model year?

Thanks again
Glenn
