: Whats the best for the buck..
79Suzy 12-13-2004, 09:14 PM I need new shocks....pretty badly actually... i cant even drive to school without bottoming out on the speed bumps...i just wanted to know from all of you guys who have put aftermarket shocks on i just want to hear your output on them..i hear the edelbrock ias are pretty good but what else is good and possibly cheaper????
All you people who read this and dont post.....i fart in your general direction!
Supercharged 86 12-13-2004, 09:24 PM Well, I don't want to farted at generally so... I have Edelbrock IAS which are great, but Monroe shocks are cheap and will fix the problem. I think Konis are a less than IAS and are pretty good too.
Poltergeist 12-13-2004, 09:51 PM I'm running KYBs on mine. They seem OK and I would use them again.
79Suzy 12-13-2004, 10:00 PM where would the best place to purchase these....would it be cheaper to order them through a parts dealer or like auto zone and such
79HellCamino 12-13-2004, 10:03 PM For the pocketbook I would have to say the KYB gas adjust.
Be aware that there is two lines of non adjustable KYB shocks. The better ones are the Gas adjust.
Summit has the best deal.
For a really tight book.Monroe Sensa Trac or KYB GR2
Summit probably has the best deal there too, if they carry them.
If you are thinking more about performance handling.
Bilstein
79Suzy 12-13-2004, 10:12 PM when buying new shocks what all will i gain and what all will i loose?? aslo does anybody know if 17" rims fit in the wheel well and how wide can i go without making mods???
79HellCamino 12-13-2004, 10:24 PM Generally with a performance type shock you will gain a stiffer ride, better controll, and a lighter pocket
With stocker type replacement shocks, nothing to be gained accept the original ride back.
Supercharged 86 12-14-2004, 05:57 AM I meant to say KYBs and you can go 17x8 with 4" backspacing, but 17x7 with 4" backspacing would be a little better if you don't have a tight ride. Otherwise it might scrape around turns.
CHVYPWR 12-14-2004, 10:06 AM I've got the KYB gas-a-just on my '78, and would definantly buy them again! I also put a set on my old '97 Silverado, made that truck handle beautifully!
82 meeno 12-14-2004, 10:40 AM I'm running monroe gasmatics.... can't even feel the speed bumps(ITS PARKED IN THE GARAGE)!! LOL
Wheezer 12-14-2004, 12:48 PM I'm using Summit Racing adjustable drag shocks and am satisfied with ride quality and handling thus far and they were cheap.I have even had to avoid an old lady who turned into my path thus causing me to take drastic steering wheel whipping action that would have had my old shocks and raised stance spinning into oblivion.I'm sure the Nitto nt450's helped too.
79Suzy 12-14-2004, 09:01 PM well i appreciate all the responces and input you guys are giving me...i think im ganna get either the kyb gas adjust or the performer edelbrock IAS....hopefully my parents will help me out with some cash cuz i dont have any right now...i dont even have an interior door handle my cousin broke it off HAHAHA
79Suzy 12-17-2004, 09:53 PM hey guys im looking in the opgi catalog and they sell the Edelbrock IAS for 69.99 each they also sell the kyb GR-2 Gas Shocks for 28.95 and the Kyb Gas-A-Just Shocks for 44.95....whats the best? im guessing the gas-a-just...can you guys help me out i need new shocks
79HellCamino 12-19-2004, 04:45 AM hey guys im looking in the opgi catalog and they sell the Kyb Gas-A-Just Shocks for 44.95.
8O 44.95 each
I told you to look at Summits site. They have the KYB Gas adjusts
Rear KYB-KG5548 27.95
Front KYB-KG4513 27.95
Plus 9.00 handling fee
For handling, of the shocks you mentioned the best performing is going to be the Edelbrocks, they are also the most expensive.
Bang for the buck goes to the KYB Gas Adjust.
