That would depend on the tires you decided to use and the amount of backspacing and offsets that the Rim has. My own personal opinion is that with 10" Rims you can go only about 4" with backspacing (3.75" is more comfortable0 that would leave 6" towards the outside of the car / Truck.

If you used a 70 or 65 series tire with a tall sidewall (moderately tall) aspect ratio then possibly. My guess is that a 60, 50 or even a 45 series would probably be too much with that size rim. But I am just guessing based on the tires and wheels I have and the left over space, which there is non on my 80 and that is pretty much the same as yours.

I suppose that you could raise the rear end with Air bags or air shocks so that they would clear the fender wells but I think they would stick out past the body.

Hi Elky Pete
My old 17" wheels are 17x10 and fits without body modifications. My new cragar SS wheel 17x9 with 4,5" backspace fits nice. Take a look at
my homepage :-D

I like the new Hood Ornament much better than the wheels! 8)

It is a good looking Elky you have but then I've said that before. You did a lot of work on it and it shows. When I was a younger man the trend was to have very large wide tires in the rear and smaller tires in the front. No one cared if the tires stuck out past the fender wells, actually it was preferred.

Back then I was into more "Straight line driving". Today I am concerned with overall handling. Straight line 1/4 & 1/8th mile is cool but really kicking butt on the highways and byways is just as fun.

There is a track not to far from my place that is a road course. On certain days each week it is open to non members (public). It is a road coarse with hills and valleys and corners and the like. Once I get the 80 completed I want to find out what it will do in the 1/4 & 1/8th but I'm really looking forward to getting to the road course to see how it handles under stress!

I also have a Drag Strip not more than 5 miles away from my house. On Saturdays I can hear the cars from my front porch. I haven't gone there with the 76. It just seems like a waist of time. My 76 has a great Power plant but a lousy rear gears for the 1/4 or the 1/8th.

How long did it take you to completely go through the truck to where you are now?

Hey Extreme Camino -- Can you tell me about any mounting problems with your front fender running lights? I have no side lights on my '81 fenders and am looking for a simple way to add some. The later 5th gen Elky lights have a stamped recess and side clips required. I am wanting to do something that just requires drilling a few holes for the screws and maybe one large hole for the light bulb itself. Did you have any of these problems on your project?
