: Edelbrock carbs
Supercharged 86 12-19-2004, 03:20 PM What can I say? Easy install, looks great, and it was adjusted perfectly from the factory for me! I went from a 600cfm Holley to a 750 Edelbrock. I must have at least 50 more hp!! I guess my engine was starved for air, but I'm sure the Edelbrock helped too. It's more responsive too. Even if it was mostly the cfm upgrade, it is still an amazing carb! Get one!
87ElCamino 12-19-2004, 09:17 PM I must have at least 50 more hp!!
Yeah, and if you put their decal on your Elky it'll add 10 more HP.
nowukno 12-19-2004, 09:51 PM LOL LOL !!!!!
oh, it's all a matter of ...shall we say taste? ..edlebrock got'um from carter which was fereral mogol, mine say weber which is owned by an italian co. they look good, they are easy to work on, and they don't blow power valves when they backfire....since I'm running 2 does that mean I get 100 horsepower more??
Supercharged 86 12-20-2004, 02:00 PM Ha Ha :? I'm serious. The 600cfm I had on there before must have been restricting the airflow a lot! It really is a huge difference. 50 might be an exaggeration so let's just call it 49 to make you all happy. I just got it because it was a great price, it was a better cfm for my car, and the power valves wouldn't need any adjustment for my blower. It really made a HUGE difference! Just take my word on it. I don't have a dyno, but you can hear and feel it.
Mrapii 12-28-2004, 02:36 AM Hey Supercharged, you seem to be some-kind of Edelbrock expert. Tell me what size Edelbrocks do they run on the Nextel Series? And tell me, all those Edelebrock carbs on Pro-Stock cars are they modified or do they just take them out of the box and bolt them on? Gimmee a break!
79HellCamino 12-28-2004, 03:37 AM :o Hey now take it easy.
nowukno 12-28-2004, 10:08 AM I dont no about that one, but, I havent seen many nextel cup or prostockers on the streets or freeways of southern cali. I run an edelbock carb and its just fine for what I need to do, get to and from work and have fun doing it I guess im just not trying to run a 9 sec. 1/4 mile time to work every day...or to weekend functions..
Supercharged 86 12-28-2004, 01:33 PM OK, I'll just never be happy about a product and share it with you again. Where did I start to sound like and Edelbrock expert Mrapii? I'm 16 and put a carb on my car? If that makes me an expert than there isn't much to them. Some Nextel Cup team should hire me for sure! To bad I don't know what size carb they'd want :-(
Think about it guys. I have a blower on my car. My last carb was a 600cfm that was about 5 years old, though it was rebuilt. If the blower doesn't get enough air, then it can't make maximum boost can it? So tell me how much power I should gain from adding 1-3lbs of boost to my blower? A noticeable amout, no? That's why it worked so well for my application. I chose the Edelbrock because it doesn't have power valves that cause problems on blown cars. If you heard/drove my car before and after you'd believe there was a good size difference.
Wow, am I an expert or what!? I'm done with this thread
2-Elkys 12-28-2004, 05:44 PM I was VERY happy with the Edelbrock i installed bolted it on right out of the box with no adjustments.
It worked for me but i was disappointed when i put the sticker on and only got 5 HP not 10...
Not all of us are MAX horespower freaks. Give the kid a break..
PPhem 01-08-2005, 08:19 PM hey supercharged 86, did you get a low profile enough air cleaner or is your carb still running au-natural?

PPhem 01-08-2005, 09:32 PM there ya go!
Supercharged 86 01-08-2005, 09:37 PM Much nicer, but I need to paint a few things and when I have enough money I might get new headers.
PPhem 01-08-2005, 09:49 PM what brand are those on there now?
Supercharged 86 01-08-2005, 10:18 PM I wish I knew! When my Dad bought the car 5 years ago it already had a 350 dropped in with these headers. I'm thinking of Hookers though
12seccamino 01-08-2005, 11:43 PM A 16 year old thinking of Hookers!! Oh man what's this world coming too! LOL, oh you mean the headers, I love my hooker headers an easy install and they added 200 hp!! Just kidding I saw all the abuse you got about the edelbrock carb (which isn't fair) so I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon as well. With all honesty though Hooker headers are great! I am also glad that your Edelbrock carb works for you! I threw 2 of them away because you can't adjust them and never worked right! Besides I am a racer and nobody uses edelbrock carbs! I tossed a 750 Demon on my car and I am happy as heck with it! I can fine tune it and it seemed to work better out of the box for my 383. -Matt
79HellCamino 01-09-2005, 12:59 AM Supercharged86-
DAMN DUDE!!!
You gotta get that lawnmower air filter off there :-(
Those things aint good for nuthin.
Don't you have a cowl hood?
Is that the biggest filter you can fit with the mini blower?
That ISN'T good for horsepower!
Iceberg76 01-09-2005, 08:33 AM I live around a bunch of die hard Holley guys (street rodders). I run multiple 2 bbl Holley's on my Hot Rod, but I wanted reliable street performance that was easy to set up on my daily driver. I bought a Edelbrock 600 (1405) last month from Jeggs for the 350 in my '76 El Camino. What a great carb....no mess.....no fuss....just great performance out of the box. I do think my Edelbrock sticker adds at least 10 horsepower at the rear window!

You should see what I have to do to get THAT filter on there! Yes, it's a cowl and that's actually part of the problem. I can't go any wider before it runs into the normal height part of the hood. As it is, if I don't tighten it enough, it hits the hood and that's with the extra 2 1/2". I'm trying to think of another way, but right now I'm trying to make the car stop. Rear brakes
I think I was misunderstood from the start. That old carb wasn't helping on a blower. This new carb is a lot bigger. It's basically like getting a few more pounds of boost AND a better carburetor.
Oh, I have lots of "Edelbrock IAS" and "Hotchkis" stickers. Maybe my car will go flatter around turns if I put them on the control arms and springs and all  Actually, one of the Hotchkis stickers says "Hotchkis- horsepower for your suspension." That's the best of both worlds!! :P
12seccamino 01-09-2005, 09:57 AM Just cut a hole in the hood let that filter stick out! or maybe put a racing scoop on that sucker! LOL, alright I'm not being serious...but I have deffinately seen a few people have done that!!

That sucks for sure.Without a doubt that itty bitty thing is costing you power.
Iceberg76 01-11-2005, 02:42 PM I want to put that blower on my '76's 350, however I'm not sure it will fit under the stock hood. Great looking engine though.....
Supercharged 86 01-11-2005, 08:29 PM Thanks! I'm trying to make it look better and better. I'd like to paint a few things (even the block) and clean up some more stuff, but it might be more money than it's worth to get into the detailing too much.
12seccamino 01-11-2005, 08:53 PM Beleive me, detailing and engine compartment is a lot of work and money! Yours looks real clean and I wouldn't go crazy. I went nuts and chromed and painted everything under my hood. I also made all the steelbraided lines to repleace rubber hoses! I probably have more than $2000 just in dress-up!! That's not counting the cost for the engine!! I know I'm an idiot!! -Matt

Mrapii 01-12-2005, 04:56 PM Wow! That is really nice. Lots of time, effort and $$$$.
86 choo-choo 04-10-2005, 12:10 AM 12 sec I see in your picture you got braces running from your front support to the top of the fender well. Where did you get them?--what are they'' out of''? If they are stock Iam in trouble I dont have them. Good lookin engine----
12seccamino 04-10-2005, 01:31 AM 86 Choo-choo, they are Buick Grand National radiator support braces. I picked them up on ebay and had them chromed. They bolt right in with out any modifications. I also believe that mid 80's Grand Prix had them as well. El Camino's didn't come with them, but they work perfect with out any modification. -Good Luck! -Matt
