Since not many people came to the first get together that was planned I decided to start alittle early. I need you guys to post ideas on places and dates for a car show or cruise. I would perfer that they be a central location so that a majority of the people can come from all three states. Give me all of your ideas and we can all vote on them later.

Thanks,
Laura

I have no idea what may be a good location for our region, however from my experience unless it's a community/city sponsored event, attendance at best will marginal. Maybe we, with our running crucks, can get together in an El Camino area at some state-city-community event.

For example, there is a show around here in June and the annual mother road (Route 66) festival usually held in September. The show in September has most of the vehicles staged by brand, sometimes model, and covers many square blocks.

If I can get our money pit in the condition I want by then I'll probably hit both—weather permitting.

Good luck with your efforts.

HEY ELCAMINO GAL,

WE HAVE A LOT OF PLACES WHERE THE LOCAL CARS GATHER ON DIFFERENT NIGHTS, I LIVE IN BURBANK, IL. JUST OUTSIDE OF CHICAGO.
I DON’T KNOW IF THAT’S CENTRAL ENOUGH BUT I WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP IF I CAN.

I would think that Route 66 Raceway in Joliet IL during Super Chevy weekend with a cruise to downtown Chicago on Lake Shore Drive at night ending at Navy Pier and then a late nite dinner at a nice restaraunt on north Clark St. would be pretty cool. No way would my Elky be finished in time to make this, but I'd be willing to help out. You could even invite members from Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Just a thought.

I like the idea of the Super Chevy Show. I would like some help maybe in setting up the cruise if we decide on that idea since I have no idea how to get around Chicago. :? Either that I was thinking about maybe meeting at the first stop of the Hot Rod Power Tour??? Let me know what you think.

OUTSTANDING, I DIDN’T EVEN THINK ABOUT ROUTE 66, GREAT IDEA!!, THERE’S LOTS OF ROOM THERE TO DISPLAY THE CARS. I LIKE THE IDEA ABOUT CRUISING “LAKE SHORE DRIVE” AND “NAVY PIER” AND IF YOUR THINKING ABOUT 2121 N. CLARK (THE OVEN GRINDERS PIAZZA FACTORY) IM IN!!!!. I HAVE LOTS OF CONTACTS AND COULD HELP WITH SETTING UP HOTELS OR WHATEVER. JUST SAY THE WORD!!

66 in Joliet at super chevy would be outstanding. Though if that does not work perhaps we can hold it @ the US 31 American Raceway (I believe that is what it is called) It has a 1/4 mile track and is open to anyone. I will be able to get more info when I get home (currently @ FT Bragg)I will be home within the next 2 weeks. Later-Matt

I TALKED TO MY CONTACT AT ROUTE 66, SUPER CHEVY IS ON AUGUST 12TH, 13TH, AND 14TH. THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH SETTING UP A SPOT IN THE PARKING LOT FOR OUR CARS ALTHOUGH THEY SAID THAT CAR SHOW USUALLY HAS ABOUT 350 CARS AND A LARGE SWAP MEET. MY CONTACT ALSO SAID WE CAN’T CALL OUR GET TOGETHER A “SHOW” BUT THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH A CAR CLUB MEETING THERE AND PARKING IN THE SAME AREA.

THEY ASKED TO GIVE THEM AT LEAST 2 WEEKS NOTICE SO THEY KNOW HOW MANY CARS ARE COMING AND THEY WANT US TO COME UP WITH SOME KIND OF FLYER THAT COULD BE PUT INTO THE WINDSHIELD SO THEY CAN DIRECT US WHERE TO PARK. IM STILL CHECKING OUT THE LAKE SHORE DRIVE AND NAVY PIER THING AND WILL ADVISE SOON.

I think the idea of Route 66 is a great idea. There's a parking area next to the track that I've seen roped off for private groups at the Super Chevy Shows. Hate to tell you that Elkys are not allowed on Lake Shore Drive, they're considered trucks therfore eligible to be ticketed. As for Navy Pier, parking is very limited and August is a peak time(tourist). getting back to Route 66 I'm pretty sure its open from 8AM to 6 pm, tailgating is permitted Its car show is great and the racing is even better.

I Hate to tell you that Elkys are not allowed on Lake Shore Drive, they're considered trucks therfore eligible to be ticketed. As for Navy Pier, parking is very limited and August is a peak time. Your right on both accounts, however cruising LSD from one entrance (on ramp) to the next exit is legal with B plates. I would think that if someone knew someone in King Richards er I mean Mayor Daleys office we might be able to get a permit (don't expect me to do this...I'm Republican and alarms go off every time I go into City Hall). Navy Pier could just be the ending point of the cruise (then off to the northside for din din)...we could even cruise down I-80 to the Bishop Ford to the Dan Ryan to Congress to Michigan Ave vice LSD and then cut over to Navy Pier (still very few stop lights so we can all keep together). But I've got to admit I cruise LSD in my Z-71 quite often and have never been stopped...it's primarily commercial vehicles with advertising that they nab, I would think the Chicago Police would be too shocked and awed by a prosession of Elkys to stop us as long as we're not speeding. Even Michigan Ave at night would be a great photo opportunity. Maybe we could even work in Lower Wacker Drive to Grand Ave. If someone works on the Route 66 meeting, and a place to meet for dinner on the northside, I'll find us an interesting route through the city from Route 66. I grew up in Chicago and have cruised the downtown area and the northside for longer than most of you are old. I now live about 30mins from Route 66. Also if any of you would like to check out places in Chicago to visit, go to www.metromix.com My Elky would never be finished in time but I could take the pics at various points of the cruise. Lets make this work, even if it's just the meet at Route 66. Right now however I don't see a whole lot of interest being generated...maybe someone needs to contact each member in our region individually and make them aware of this idea and get a committment to attend. 4 or 5 Elkys attending isn't worth the effort. Cmon Region 10, lets see some enthusiasm! 8)

I can contact the members. I have a list of over 100 emails of Elky owners in the region. Hopefully we can make this work. I have no idea how to get around Chicago at all. I have been to Route 66 and that is about it lol. So it would be wonderful if you could plan out a route for us. For the Region 10 or other ECC members that are interested either pm me or post your interest so I can get a better idea who is thinking about coming.
Thanks,
Laura

About a 4.5 hour drive to Chicago for us. We usually drive to St. Paul, MN every year for the Back to the 50's Rod and Custom show. That's a 5.5 hour drive and an enjoyable event with over 10,000 show cars.

Always wanted to do Route 66. Sounds feasible at this time.

Until next time...

I'm thinking about coming down on that Saturday. Someone mentioned getting a place for all of us to park together- is this just in the parking area or the show area? Unfortunatly my car's nowhere near show condition, it's my daily driver and so needs a lot of work. But I'm sure interested in coming to the show.

Well i was in the area but never made it to the track. It rained hard on and off friday and satuday. My friend's did get some track time on sunday. I didn't go, I was too hung over from satuday night or maybe it was a lack of race fumes.
