To install the radio in my elkie it was no easy task. I had an after market tape deck 15x4 OH YEAH!!!! the stock 3 1/2's up front and the guy who had my '81 before me put some 6x9 mounts behind the seats. The 6x9s were toast. I have never seen another elky with places for the 6x9's like mine. The mounts are below the back widow and mount where the carpet should snap at the top. My elky came with no carpet the origianl owner must of tost it. With the setup that was in it the driving noise at 55 mph alone cut out the radio. I got a sony xplode cd/cdrw/mp3 52x4 head unit. No wiring kit really that I know of just going to have to do it yourself. Took out the dash to run new wires to the new boston 3 1/2's. Really good sound and tweeters in these rms is like 30 watts but really good. I have some 260 watt pionner 6x9's behind the seat not alot of bass since they are in no inclosure but add to the surround sound. After setting that up. I went out and got an mp Sony xplode 250 watt. Bridged that to a jl audio 12 inch sub in a truck box that slides in to the smugglers box behind my drivers seat, and you could also hold a spare on the passengers sides smugglers box if you wished. or add another 12 inch sub in another truck box. People say you can't get a good sound from an elky, but to me the setup is really badass. I think the smugglers box was made for subs the way a sub hits the metal is a really good sounding bass.
