Anyone know any sort of trick for taking off the chrome on the plastic trim of a 5th gen. Right now I'm attempting to sand and slice it off, but it takes a very long time and is damn near impossible to get in smaller grooves... Anyhow, is there some kind of chemical or something that will strip this stuff right off?

Which plastic trim. Interior or exterior? Are you trying to remove the chrome from the trim to paint?

If it is the chrome trim on interior plastic trim pieces I used an eraser made for ink. Just rubbed it off.

Exterior, specifically around the headlights. Trying to remove the chrome to do some bondo work, I've tried it on top of the chrome before and doesn't work so well... and then yes to paint.

You can have the metal parts dechromed by a business that chromes. I've done that myself.
Good luck.

Unfortunately they are plastic ... :/

Ammonia
Plastic is "chromed" by first painting it with a clear laquer. Then the parts are placed in a container where atomized mylar is sort of "fogged in". The mylar molecules stick to the laquer, and you end up with a chrome like finish.
By soaking the parts in ammonia, you can break down this chemical bond. The ammonia will NOT harm the plastic. This is a slow process however. You may need to let it sit for a couple days. After soaking for a while, a toothbrush will help clean up the nooks and crannies.
