In 5 years the Elcamino will be 50. there is a lot of talk abou a national show.

I would like to get together with members in NY. Are there any NY shows?

If not how do we start one?
Ive just started my project. 1984 former flower car that sat for a long time then was the victim of a barely started restore.

How about a meet and greet of region one caminos? Looks like most are located in the NYC/Long Island area. I'm in the Syracuse area.

There are a lot of shows on LI starting in March. I go to nearly all of them.

I would recommend we do one of the Belmont Racetrack shows, it is right off the Cross Island Parkway, easily accessible from everywhere. They are huge, usually nearly 1000 cars. The organizers will make a separate Elky class as long as enough show up, they are very accommodating and EVERYONE gets a trophy, even down to 5th place.

By participating in one of these shows we don't have to do any work at all... no scheduling, no reserving space, nothing... just show up! Cost is minimal at $20 per car.

When the schedule is announced for 2005 I'll post it here.

Here are some pictures of the last Belmont show in November 2004 (http://www.dftowel.com/carshows/belmont1104)

Still waiting for my Photo Award from this show. The organizers "Long Island Cars" never have enough award plaques and don't seem to care. Unanswered phone calls Yada Yada Yada. Dirt Bags. There are a lot of shows on LI starting in March. I go to nearly all of them.

How about some place more central to the whole state. I know there are showes in Reinbech. I sure there are many others, or we could start our own. Any ideas? Maybee June 05?

I'd like to see something more close to the center. I'm in WNY between Rochester and Buffalo so heading out to NYC might be a stretch depending on time of year and college schedule etc.

I think us elcamino guys near syracuse and area around there should have meet at the track in syracuse for a mini meet so we can get to know each other and then when they have the another in newyork city we can all cruise there in a pack of elcamino. let me konw what u think of my idea.

I live in NYC however I think it is only fair that we attend something more centralized----if we can't seem to get that together---because NY State is so large ---then we need to have the option of a north and a south show..We certainly can't expect folks to drive 5-6 hours from Syracuse to LI new york!!!

Lets get a count of how many people are serious about getting together from each area.

That is true some people wont drive there but i would go there because i wanna meet the elcamino crew. I had a idea lastnight i went to albany a few months ago and i saw a track there that look like very popular i think that is half way for syracuse dont u i know it's about 1 hour ride from here and when i went to new jersey for work it only took me and hour to get to albany so i think that might be half way dont u. let me know what u think I really want to go to a show this year.

Look at it this way guys, to set up our own meet is fine but we'd be lucky to get more than a handful to meet at some local restaurant. It's better to meet up at a scheduled show and let them do all the work. Schedules will soon be posted for showss all over the state so I feel it's best to meet up at a couple of shows, say Belmont and midstate? This way anone who want's to take a drive can and others still have the opportunity to stay relatively close to home. I'm sure some of us will do both shows.

Pete, I am running a bullet proof TH350. It is great for the track and great for around town, but it is horrible on the highway! You can just watch the gas gauge go down! It runs about 3000rpm at 60mph. I have considered putting one of those Gear Vendors overdrive units on it, but I can't justify the expense. With the amount of horsepower I am running, and the fact that I will probably run it at the tract occasionaly a 700-r4 or 200r4 would not be reliable. They would also cost me the same amount to convert it as the aux. overdrive unit. -Matt

What about meeting up in the Albany area? Its a 3 hour drive from NYC, 4 hours from Rochester, with ample hotel and dining choices. A local roller rink, Guptils, has friday night cuise ins all summer.

I live between Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Hopfully in a year or two I'll enter my Caballero into the small local show during the Canal Fest. I'd be willing to drive probably 2 hours for a decent sized meet.

Besides all the shows that come around july-aug and some local cruise nights we can't seem to find many Elkys at all at any of them.. Would like to go to a national event.
