While reading a book on El Camino's they claim the last El Camino was produced in July of 87. My 87 El Camino clearly says 08/87 on the drivers door. Does anyone know the last VIN produced? Just curious. Also I'm looking to install 16 x 8 Iroc wheels with 225 x 55 tires. Do these tires/wheels work without any clearance problems? Do I need to use 4 front Iroc wheels in order to do a rotation? Thanks Brian

yeah, the front ones would probably work, i might be able to find out this weekend when im helping my buddy install his rear into his iroc, i rolled it up next to my elky and it looked pretty sweet. I do imagine that 4 fronts would work, the rear irocs might be a little too wide on a stock setup, i've got 235/15's and they rub a LITTLE in the front goin around turns :-\ they're same height as stock tires, but hey're wider

The last 1987 VIN sequence number should be 13743. That's the number quoted as being produced in 1987. There are published reports of 420 El Caminos being produced in 1988. Most enthusiasts believe these are really left over 1987 El Caminos and that 1988 VIN tags were not produced. I've requested ECC/NECOA members to share any 1988 VIN information with me if they ever run across a 1988 VIN plate.
All that said, I wonder if there are 1987 VINs above 13743, perhaps 420 more sequence numbers? The VIN has the "year" code in the number. In 1987 it's the 10th character in the VIN and it is "H" for 1987.
1985-87 El Caminos were produced in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.
14851 so there goes that theory. 13743 + 420 = 14163

That's what I always heard, that the Elky's and Montes were actually built in late '87....I've seen several MCSS's from '88 but never any Elkys...in fact I've never even heard of anyone owning one...
