Anyone know of a cheap way to handle suspension lifts? Like under 1000. Cheapest way seems to be throwing it on a blazer frame.

DO WHAT????? you want to lift an elky? Like make a wheeler out of it? All the perfectly good junk trucks lying around around to play with and you want to ruin a model that hasn't been in production in over 20 years?

Dude, you can't be serious?!?! Lifting an El Camino? Go buy a Blazer or a Silverado if you want to play in the mud! As far as I am concerned that would be a sin! I have seen it done, and it certainly isn't my tatse. I was going to ask how you came up with name "mindlesspuppet", but at least now the "mindless" part makes sense! LOL I am just kidding around about that part. I have seen that done by using s-10 or blazer frames but once again...why??? -Matt

I like the style of it more. Want a more aggressive looking Elky. I want it so that when people look at it they think truck and not car, all too often people call El caminos cars... my license plate says "truck".

Want a more "trucky" Elky? How about making it into a "dually". Seen plenty of 4-wheel drive Elkys--not impressive anymore. Now a "dually" with 2 big chrome exhaust stacks...now you're talking.

Haha actually I planned on making it a dually eventually. As for stacks... I've played around with the idea, but can't see it looking good on a 5th gen.

I see where you're coming from, but they ARE cars. They're G-bodies. Same as Monte Carlos, Malibus, Regals, etc... It's a pickup, but not a pickup truck. That's how I always thought about it at least.

An El Camino is a pick-up car. It is mounted on the same frame as the Monte Carlo, Buick regal, Malibu, Grand Prix, Olds Cutlas etc. Therefor it is most deffinately a pick-up CAR. -Matt

You can call it a pick-up car or a car pick-up, even Chevrolet cahnged the emphasis over the years of manufacter. But Mindless give us a break. When you asked us about suspension lifts you actually sounded as if you thought someone made a suspension lift for Elkys! No one does because no one wants one (except you). The four wheel drive Elky on a pickup frame has been done many times and it's ok but not my cup of tea.

before you decide to ruin a perfectly good elky, why don't you sell it.

my 2 cents

If you are just looking for a more truck looking elky then why not just put a body lift under it? Do you actually want it to be a 4x4? A body lift would be alot easier to do and if all you want is a truck look it would work perfect.

Just thought of an even cheeper idea. Just cut the wheel wells. This would allow you to stick in a larger tire and give you a more aggressive look. With a larger front tire though remember that your steering and turning will be affected.

same frame? close, at least the gen 3's are similar frames, but they were boxed from the factory for extra strength.

I can't believe there is a serious discussion about suspension lifts, body lifts and big off-road tires! What is this "El Big Foot Central"?

how about taking a ranchero and doing the whole 4x4 thing with that. at leats if you screw up it will be a ford instead of a chevy.

I have seen about 5 4x4 elkys in my time and the ones that looked the best where when the owner fabricated a way to add a transfer case and a drive front axle, thus making the elky 4 wheel drive and leaving it on the elky frame. Personally I think the 2nd gens make the best looking 4x4 becouse the other years are a little to long and I dont think they look all that good lifted.

I know...

How about adding some 24's?

That alone will lift that sucker and people will look at it and say now that's a truck, or a SUV, or a Honda :P

Or how about cutting the wheel wells out, adding a Blazer undercarriage, some swampers, some orange paint, a big 01 on the side , and a nice CB whip antenna. And last but not least, a couple of Dixie Rebel flags.

Oh YEaaaaa now that's a truck

Lift a 5th gen
