: Looking for a certain ECC Member
a73elkyss 06-18-2003, 09:03 AM I'm looking to find out some info on an ECC members 1970 El Camino SS so I can ask them some questions about their elky. Not sure of his/her name or ID.
I saw the pics under Member Cars - 3rd Generation Owners - 2nd page -"Black 1970 ElCamino SS". The pics were posted June 9th.
What I'm really looking for is some info on a bed lid, either in smooth paintable fiberglass or fiberglass w/vinyl covering. It needs to fit a '72 3rd Gen Elky.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
That was one of Ben Rainbow's (AHSOM70) Elkies.
E-mail him, he's been real busy with a project at work.
a73elkyss 06-18-2003, 11:56 AM Thanks Peter! I'll email him. No rush, I was just admiring his black Elky. I've seen some of his other elky's. They are all pretty sharp. He must have a "fleet". Lucky guy
azmotorhead 06-24-2003, 11:59 PM A72, I've got a Gaylords hard lid on my 72. Nice older lid(picked it up used) and the only trouble Ireally had was putting the proper hinges on it.
It had 64-67 hinges on it when I picked it up in Long Beach but Gaylords has been very helpful in getting me the right hinges and also a new seal for the edge
a73elkyss 06-25-2003, 04:35 AM Thanks for the feedback Phil. Any chance you have some pic's of your '72 with the lid? Does it keep all the rain water out of the bed? Thanks again.
FatherLEE 07-30-2003, 06:04 PM I'm new to this but I have 2 69s and one I have I put a new Gaylors top on it and love it I bought mine from original parts group and after truck freight it was over $800 but well worth it mine is over a year old and I see in the new cataloge that the prises have gone up since i bought mine, but you end up with the largest trunk in the world. Fatherlee
a73elkyss 07-30-2003, 06:52 PM Thanks FatherLEE. Did yours come white or in color? How does it do keeping the elements out?
With that kind of cost, I might have to wait for my goverment "tax check" to come in.....
ElkyPete 07-31-2003, 05:39 AM The Gaylord lids that I have and have seen fit over the bed and the top bed trim all the way back. The front (by the cab) has a rain gutter you install and drill two holes so that water can drain. Most are pretty water tight but they're not always 100% water tight but pretty close.
Most I have seen advertised come in a Textured surface and smooth and generally in one of two colors, black or white. I think, I am not sure, they have one for each year model of Elky and most all trucks.
FWIW :-)
70ELCO 08-28-2003, 03:20 PM Best of luck on your quest to find your info you need. I'm also new here and had questions about a hard top bed cover. Read my post if you have the time!
a73elkyss 08-29-2003, 03:40 AM Welcome to ECC Dave. I am pretty much going to go with the Gaylord (gaylords.com (http://www.gaylordslids.com/classics.asp)) brand fiberglass lid when I have the funds. I do like the looks of it and saw a pic of one that was painted to match the elky along with the stripe from the hood going down the back of the lid. I liked that look and saved some of the pic's of it.
Were was your post, so I can read it? Is that your '70 Elky with the plate "70 ELCO" under the 3rd gen members cars section? That is a nice ride.
ElkySS 08-29-2003, 03:14 PM Many of the ECC/NECOA sponsors carry the Gaylord lids and give a discount to our members. Check into that and save 50-60 bucks. If that doesn't work, try Evil Bay.
Local Gaylord lid owners tell me the lids are not 100% watertight, but they do a good job, overall.
70ELCO 08-31-2003, 08:04 PM '72 Elky.
Hey guys! My post on the bed lids or covers is in the body restoration section. For sure I agree that the Gaylord products are very nice in quality...Its just me that is real fussy on looks. I'm just looking for something that is alot my flush that won't cover the bed rails on our years.
'70 Elco (Dave)
70ELCO 08-31-2003, 08:12 PM Forgot to mention....I think color is real important on the bed cover also. I have a bright white car so the color contrast really stands out on my car if I go to a black color lid. So thats why I'm looking for a cover that is real low key and flush. The darker the cars the smaller things seam to look.
So hey if you have the time, check out my post in the body resteration sec in the forms on "68-72" bed covers. I have had Zero intertest in replies.
Thanks,
Dave
Homerj_1 08-31-2003, 08:54 PM I ordered a Gaylord's top for my Elky from Coppers234@aol.com (Choo Choo Automotives) The guys name is Steve he is on E-bay alot. But He will deal directly with you without going thru E-bay I paid $793.00 for my top that also included the shipping charges I had it sent to a business so it was about $30.00 cheaper than shipping to the house upon arrival it had some slight shipping damage to it, So I made a claim with the shipping company after I got a estimate for repair and they sent me a check for $396.50 half the price for the top. The damage was only minor and the chrome trime around the edge covers up the damage about the size of a quarter so I just keep the money and did not fix the top. but any way contact steve and see what he can do for you. Just thought I would let you know.
AHSOM70 09-10-2003, 05:54 PM Hey guys- A little late in replying...
I posted the Pics of that Black elky, but its not mine. It was for sale on Ebay and had all the pics there, so i snagged em. When the gallery's first opened up there were not many photos in there, so i created a couple extra albums for cars i had pictures of.... Sorry for the confusion- I just wanted to have as many pics availalbe up here of different elkys as possible.
My album of the white 69 was my car- and of course my red 70 elky is my current car- and eventually if i dig up my pics, i'll create an album for my blue 75 elky... :)
ANyway- I do have one thing to add that actually is about the hard tonneaus... Gaylord is the one who makes both a smooth & pebbled surface cover- There are several other MFGS that make similar covers, but they are all pebbled style. If you are looking for the smooth style- be sure to verify that it is the GAYLORD brand cover- not gaylord "style".
Just something to look out for.
a73elkyss 09-10-2003, 06:18 PM Thanks for setting the record straight and thanks for the advise on the Gaylord lid. They seem to have one of the nicer looking lids that close on "top" of the bed.
I have seen some pictures of flush mounted lids or maybe they are vinyl covers that just fit flush (not on top of the top chrome that goes around the bed).
Do you have any idea of any manufacture that makes flush lids or flush vinyl covers for Elky's????
