Did you check Crutchfield? www.crutchfield.com
I've gotten all my stereos over the years from them, always including harnesses and custom install instructions with mods. I think Pioneer makes a "double wide" CD unit for GM and chrysler applications, that's probably as close as you will get to orig.
I gave up on anything but a Sanyo cassette player and just modified an 87 radio plate for a nice blaupunkt Monte Carlo CD player. For as many GM's on the raod with that size radio you think one company would make at least one model that slides right in ..... I guess I don't much about marketing.
You could just go with a changer in the smugglers box.

Yes, depending on the style a stock GM Delco single disc CD player will fit your dash. Look on Ebay and find the style you need...you don't need to buy it off Ebay but it will give you some ideas as to what will fit from other GM cars. I have a 95 Trans Am Delco system in my 84 Elky (cassette with 5 band equalizer). I could have installed a CD player instead and will in the near future. I had to change my faceplate to the 86/87 style which you already have, buy an adapter plug and the mounting brackets...I spent around $120 for the whole setup including the faceplate and player minus shipping. Be very careful when swapping out the system...the dash is very weak in this area!!!

I made the same conversion as Mike 1984 Conquista NECOA#404 did, and I love it. I did need to remove the radio support bracket inside the dash opening (remove ashtray bracket, break off rivit heads with flat blade screwdriver, reinstall ashtray bracket, tie up data port) as the newer style Delco radios are slightly deeper. Also had to file away about 1/32 of excess metal on the new radio's mounting bracket (make sure you tape over all holes in the radio body before filing to keep the burrs out) to fit inside the dash opening. I plan to rig up some rear support because as Mike pointed out, the dash is not very strong.

The El Camino Store (www.elcaminostore.com) in Goleta, CA has one listed in their catalogue that looks like a stock Delco Analog AM/FM radio but is also a 6 CD Changer - pricey ($239.95) but it would appear it is literally just "Plug n Play"

if u want to keep that stock look,i'd get a digital am/fm and get a disc changer under the seat.

Just an idea ... I was looking into a cd changer and realized if you run RCA jacks from the AUX input on most stereos you can just take your iPod with you and plug it directly in and have unlimited music for days of driving. I now have a decent receiver with over 1500 songs at my disposal and can take the iPod with me when I get out (no chance of theft) .... works for me.
