Would anyone ever want to meet there and run some drags? I know my car is incredibly slow, but it would still be fun i believe. Anyone interested in something like that?

Thats pretty far, maybe I will one day. I'm pretty sure most people on here will womp me and my 267, i just want to run the 1/4 a few times. Thats near sarasota though, right? or am i thinking wrong direction, lol.

Yeah its 1/4.
http://www.speedworlddragway.com/

I said that place because its a little more central. When i think about it, I don't think i could get myself to drive all the way to sarasota to run the times i figure i will, lol. My cars not to impressive speed wise right now. I did beat my one friend that has a 79 camaro with a 305/350 combo, but his is a dog to.

I'm real close... Wedgefield
gotta 84 305, curious myself to get a pre engine-mod base time
I think practice night is Wed. $10-$20

Steve84Ec
01-14-2005, 07:16 AM
A wed. would be good for me, i'm off every wed. and thursday. I think they have the same thing on friday nights to, right? Some people might like that better. I Think sometime soon I will go out there, don't expect much from it though, which i guess will keep me from hurting my feelings, lol.

chkd out your site... Mine is the same color, no two-tone though...
FYI I would black-out your tag number... you never know what some idiot might be able to do with that.

It would be fun to take over Speed World one night with El Caminos :)
They will let you rent it out (private party) if we could get enough people to bring the individual costs down. Maybe an El Camino National's drag weekend.
Maybe one of the event directors here could be contacted to set it up. I'm sure the snowbirds would love to escape the cold weather for a weekend between Nov and Mar and you can camp on-site.

Wednesday would be better to start off with, not so crowded...
I chkd: $15 to practice... they used to sell high octane out there too, but I wouldn't run it through your cat

Steve84Ec
01-14-2005, 02:37 PM
Yeah, i have no use for the high octane. I'll black that out to, never thought about it. Some time soon I'm gonna shoot out there on a wed., never done the 1/4 run before, looks fun.

Hey, count me in. I am up for either wednesdays or fridays. I also have a 305 but it is still fun because we can bracket race and if you dial in good, you will win the heat, even if you are not the high horsepower car.

Steve84Ec
01-15-2005, 04:28 PM
lol, what is that, three 305's and my 267? LETS DO IT! lol, seriously, any wed. I'm down for this.

Doesn't bother me any. We need to pick a date to go there, I'm going to go sometime soon, and having other el camino's out there should make it a little more fun

01-17-2005, 04:06 PM
dang i wish i could go but my carb needs rebuilding....darn 2barrels. Well hey Steve84 post your times and speeds so i can relate it to mine, i have a 267 also but im rebuilding a 305 to put in soon.

Steve84Ec
01-17-2005, 04:21 PM
Alright, i will. I have the rebuilt 267(still isn't great, carb could use a rebuilt also, but isn't horrible) Turbo 350 transmission rebuilt recently, 2.41 gears, and tall tires, lol, don't expect anything to good. lol But i will for sure post the times up for you.

Steve84Ec
01-18-2005, 03:17 PM
So anyone think of a good date? which wed. would we be able to get the most people to show?

bbailey_33
01-19-2005, 06:21 AM
I'm real close, so I'll keep lookin here... but I am having both doors repaired, blasted and primed in 2 - 3 weeks, so I might not be able to show in that time frame.... I got tired of waiting on Goodmark or trying to find one on my own, I figure my junk is as good as anyone elses.

Steve84Ec
01-19-2005, 07:17 AM
Would anyone show up next Wed.? I think I may go then.

Steve84Ec
01-20-2005, 06:17 PM
Me and my friend(he has a 79 camaro, 305 turbo 350) Are gonna go this Wed. should be fun, i have beaten him before, but i think his 305 will edge me out further down the track.

bbailey_33
01-22-2005, 04:22 PM
are you talking about Jan 26? I might be able to make that night
I still think we should start an "El Camino Nationals" run there... like early spring. It would be the only one in the world :)

Steve84Ec
01-22-2005, 04:26 PM
Yeah, the 26th me and a friend are heading out there. And I'm all for an el camino nationals, lol, could be a big spring meet.

darkangel59
01-22-2005, 05:24 PM

the National meet is a dream, but would prob be the biggest in the world if we could pull it off. I think the moderator for the region could help us make this an eventual National event though. We could move the semi-weekly thing to Friday nights to accomodate more... I'm not to keen on Wed either, too many other things goin on usually

Hey guys, I have been out of touch since last week. I think that I can be there tomorrow night if that is still your plan. Let me know and I will check this site tomorrow and let you know if i am coming. thanks.

bbailey_33
01-25-2005, 05:33 PM
sorry guys, I won't make it... son side-scraped a parked car today, goin to get the door looked at after work tomorrow... not of my Mino though :)
I am serious about the semi-weekly runs though,so I'll keep in touch. I want a good base time before I start any serious engine mods. I've seen a couple really quick ones out there before, especially the all black 72 (I think)... he's got lead weights that fit into brackets on the inside of his tailgate, he needs em too, that thing is a monster.

p.s. I'm really serious about the all El Camino weekend and am currently checking on track rental details for a weekend.

Hey, anyone interested in trying again to meet at the speed world? Thinking maybe a month/two months away, i would be willing to go on a friday if its better for people. It was a lot of fun last time and i would like to line up against an el camino, lol.

hey, i been outta touch for a while and i just saw this post. wondering when you guys will eb doing it again, and if you're gonna try and arrange abig elky spring meet or somethin. how far is that from daytona? bc if its not far then you could probably get people to come round the time that big daytona meet is spose to be. id liek to run the car soem day, dont got the time on weekdays tho especially with an hour drive to get there. keep me posted if you're ever gonna do a weekend or friday run. ta.

Steve84Ec
01-31-2005, 02:54 PM
Its not real far or close to daytona, about 60 miles, but going south on i95, no much traffic so its a pretty quick trip. Took maybe around 45 minutes maybe. I know they have the funday sunday's once a month, but they are supposed to be pretty packed. I liked going on the wed. because there were a lot of people, but not to many. Friday's i would guess there would be a few more people there, but i'm not sure. Anyone that wants to pick some kind of date go ahead, i'll be down for it.

hey rodent... welcome to the site, I've only been a member a couple months... still lookin for doors... I know George at Auto Motion (Apopka) had a Conquista driver side door there that might work for you... I passed on it because of the chrome hangers midway up the door... wanted $400 they fixed it there, it did have the common rust problem along the botom ridge... If not, let me know, I found a Corvette guy in town that will fix em, I'm taking both of my doors to him as soon as I get my IRS refund. I too am looking forward to finally making the Wed night run... lastnight's weather really sucked, and I don't think they were open... maybe next Wed

Mr car is actually complete minus both bumpers, windsheild and tranny... oh, and did I mention, it's totally dissasembeled and has been in stored indoors for 15 years so I doubt there are any serious rust issues. My bud had it but the hurricanes destroyed his ceilings. After he started repairing the house he gave me the car just to get it out of the way.

Hey Guys. I went to the track Friday night and ran my ol' 83. Although, it is only a 305, I had a great time. I saw two other elkys. Talked to one fellow, he had just picked his up that day for his son, who was with them. The other one left before I could tallk to him. Anyway, it was fun. I ran in the low 17's. I was pleased with that since it is stock execpt for the intake and carb. Still ruinning points and stock exhaust. These will be changed out in the months ahead. I will be going back as much as I can, so if anyone here is planning on going, please post.

was it really crowded?
how many runs did you get in?
I self timed myself on a deserted road the other day 16.7, not claiming it was reliable, but sounds close
my home/work life is so crazy right now, but that's gotta change soon and I'll be there

02-22-2005, 03:43 PM
No, it wasn't that crowded. I got in four runs. Could have gotten in Five, but the few mishaps by fuild leaking on the track and one guy hitting the guard rail, it slowed down our time to run.

02-23-2005, 01:15 AM
i went on a wed. before and got 3 runs in, and left pretty early, i bet more people go on friday's though.

lol, yeah, i'm usually sleeping early, but me and my friends did some night fishing, got home about 3. I'm still up for going sometime, even though i'm sure i have the slowest camino out of the bunch.
