As the new NECOA Michigan State Coordinator, I have been working on a couple of events JUST FOR US!
First, I am in contact with the Director of Marketing for the Detroit Science Center. Running from now until the end of May, is a Monster Truck exhibit. It looks REALLY cool. Here's a link... Monster Trucks (http://www.detroitsciencecenter.org/events/MonsterTrucks.htm)
What does this have to do with us? Well, they are receptive to the idea of having us set up an exclusive, El Camino only, car/truck show in their parking lot! This would be a great way of showing off our Elkys and attract interest and possibly members that we may not have reached any other way. We are tentatively talking about either Saturday, April 30 or Sunday, May 1. Of course the first question they want to know is how many El Caminos can they expect? So I am posing this question to you guys.... how many of you would like to set up there? Again, this is JUST FOR US. It's not like other cruise-ins that if we don't show up, its not a big deal. We are creating an exclusive event. If we don't get enough people on board, the whole thing is canceled.
Second, I am in contact with the Director of the Saint Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade. This year's parade will be Sunday, May 29. I have participated in this parade in the past (with another group) and it always has a really nice turnout. (One year they had a B2 bomber fly-over!) I think 4 or 6 or 8 El Caminos coming down the street in formation, would be a sight to see! Again, they would like to know how many El Caminos to expect, so again I ask you, how many of you would like to participate?
Now I know what some of you are thinking.... "My Elky isn't ready to show off yet." Well, since it is most important to show a great number of Elkys (rather than the fine detail of each) there is plenty of time to hit your Elky with a couple $0.98 cans of Walmart primer! The Rat-Rod look is hot right now, and remember these events are ours to make of them as we wish. These aren't "judged" shows, just an excuse to cruise, and attact new members and interest!
So let me know if you would like to participate in each of these events, as both of my contacts are waiting for numbers from me. I'd like to make a decision on both these events by January 31.
