what headers will work on this swap? I would like to upgrade from stock for a better exhaust flow and convert the 80 elky to a dual exhaust ( with h pipe ). I am thinking either a 3" or 3.5" pipe should do it, but I don't know what headers to get? brands? and should any aftermarket headers for the engine work, considering the 95 camaro it came from is a tighter fit than the elky's engine bay?

thanks

Get headers for the El Camino not the motor. The flange (head) is the same and they will fit the body. The Camaro ones will hit the frame. I had a set of Hooker Super Comp (for G-bodies) long tubes at first and fit perfect. A Camaro set of shorties that I tried later on hit the passenger side frame.

2.5" is more then enough with duals. This would give 5" of total exhaust! Unless you are doing a major build up of the motor and putting a turbo or blower on back pressure will not be a problem.

which motor for the elcamino is the same as the lt1, as far as the heads? the motor that is in it now is a v6 and I know that those headers wont bolt up to a v8. so which motor? or when I order do I just buy for the elcamino and get any v8 header?

I didn't think about the dual exhaust splitting the back pressure. since thats the case then the stock size but in duals would be like doubling the size and staying with a single, with all the stuff that needs to be done on this swap some of the normally obvious stuff is hidden behind the complicated ****. thanks for the look out

Any small block V8 should work. I used 2150HKR Hooker headers. They are for 1978-87 El Camino 265-400ci motors.

Do the hookers fit the heads as is? I thought I had read somewhere that you had to elongate the holes in the flange in order to raise the header or something like that. It would be great if they are a bolt up.

Bolted right up no mods. The Gen II motor shares a lot with the old small block; motor mount location, exhaust ports and few others. I did install a crossmembers.com tranny cross-member that was setup for dual exhaust. This was needed for the Long Tubes.

I bought the G-force crossmember which has the cutouts for the longtubes so I should be OK. Thanks!
