for those who haven't seen any of my 20 some odd ?'s, I am doing a lt1 swap in a 80 elky. I would like to upgrade the ignition system/ components. I am wondering what size and brand on the plug wires, what brand plugs seem to be the best for this engine.

also on the optispark is there any way to use an external coil like an msd, does the msd actually upgrade or is the oem coil already good. what about the msd " box" ?

again thanks

I have a set of MSD 8.5mm wires on my LT1. They seem OK and I have no complants about them. I also have NGK TR55 plugs. Most of the F-body guys I know are using them unless they are running N2O (Nawwss) then they are using TR6.

The LT1 has an external coil. If you look on the driver side head you'll see it there (F-body and Impala LT1s). You can use an MSD blaster etc if you want. I had one at first and when it went bad after about 12k miles (shorting to the metal support) I put a good ol GM unit back on. The GM unit is really a pretty good unit. Don't know about about using one of the MSD boxes. I know a few LT1s are but don't know what's involved. Most of those guys have fairly built up motors.
