The front brakes on my '79 are gettin a bit rusty and i would like to bump up the brake power also.

Has anyone put in new front rotors and calipers, if so what brand and how much did they cost/ how easy to install?

Get good rotors. They will cost about $35 each. Don't go for the cheap China rotors that are $15 each. Rebuilt calipers are around $15-20 each. A good set of metallic pads are around $20-25. Look at your brake hoses while you're at it. If they're cracked they should be replaced. Get a quart of brake fluid because after you open the brake lines on the caliper the fluid will bleed down. Plus you'll need to bleed the system after everything is re-installed. Also get a tube of high temperature bearing grease. You'll have to re-use the wheel bearings. The new rotors should have the races pressed in. Remember to repack the wheel bearings in the new rotors.

where is the best place to get these items, and are the calipers your talking about multi-piston/ or are they just re-built stock?

Those would be stock, single piston. I just got a pair at Pepboys. $12 with an $18 core charge--or close to that.

Any good autoparts store will have everything I listed. The calipers I spoke of are just stock single piston rebuilds. Remember to stay away from the cheap rotors!
