Has anyone out there tried the Delta H4 or HID headlight conversions on their third or fouth gen Elky yet? I'm looking at the OPGI catalog and they intrigue me.

I don't want ricer or EuroLuxo look, I would just like to have a little brighter headlights.

I have sylvania sealed Halogens right now and have modded the wiring harness with relays so that the lights run straight off the battery instead of going through the whole instrument panel.

They are pretty bright but I know those HID's put out far better light.

Here's the description from OPGI...

Convert your standard low power headlamps over to the ultra-bright halogen or Xenon headlamps used in all the high-end European luxury cars. The Delta Tech conversions replace 1964-70 using four 5-3/4" round lamps, or 1971-77 vehicles using two 7" round lamps. Besides the powerful bulbs, the other reason these conversions provide so much light, is the use of a lead crystal lens and a specially four-coated finish parabolic reflector. The Delta Tech headlamp conversions are an easy bolt-in for more light and improved safety. Delta Tech also offers a DRL, or Daytime Running Lamps, conversion, for increased safety on 7" round headlamps, for your classic. It's an easy adaption and requires only minor modifications

thx.

Those headlights may be brighter for you, but please consider that they're brighter for those coming the other way! Unless you're very careful about keeping those puppies properly adjusted, you wind up creating more road hazard, not less...

I do my very best not to blind people but the consideration doesn't seem to be mutual. I don't know how many times I get blinded by someone in their stupid Jaguar, Mitsubishi or Lexus.

I'm not talking about stupid ricer rides with the Kanji and wings either. I mean bone stock, factory luxo rides that you see on TV "for only 549.00 a month on lease."

The wannabe luxo rides like the Nissan Maxima's and Sentra's are even worse.

I especially enjoy the morons who ride down a brightly lit street with their high beams on and sit there at the stoplight blinding you. I can tell the High from the Low from the amount of Retina damage I sustain from the experience.

So don't worry about that. I just want to get a bit more light output and maybe even use a bit less power doing it. I've heard the Xenon bulbs don't use as much power as the incandescents or sealed beam halogen units. That's the other reason I'm interested.

:-D

Don't know about those particular lights...

But the H4 conversion bulbs do not quite fit in the quad lamp gen 3s. The bulb boot is too big to fit through the holes in the core support. They do fit through the headlight buckets though.

With my 5th, and have though about it with my 76 also, I am using a conversion light and the Xenon Bulbs. I am also not using the Headlamp switch to route power to them, lots of articles suggest using a Relay to Battery power, fused. The light switch just turns on the relays for the head lamps. It gets more actual power to the lamps. You sustain very little voltage drop because of the wire length. You can install the relay pack very close to the battery and lights. Its easier on the light switch also. Highbeam lights are the same way.

Already have the relay's set up. Wired separate High an Low beam circuits too.
Just wondered if it was worth the trouble to the Xenon thing.
