Hola!

I'm 16, and currently looking to buy an 83/84 El Camino. Another friend and I are looking to drag race, and this entails removing that old 305 for something along the lines of a ZZ502 :D

I saw that it could be done without too much of a hassle. I mean, there's gonna be some work involved, but I don't have to swap much else out besides the radiator and whatever else.

However, our current plans involve putting a Holley Supercharger (not sure on the model number) w/ a King Demon 1295 Carb with a Street Scoop intake. Helluva setup. You think all of this will fit under the hood ('cuz I don't think it'll fit even with a 6" cowl) I heard the intake may be a problem (especially with this much engine, and the requirements the engine will need). . . Any way of getting around it?

Second, I have a general question (my friend knows a lot more about cars than I do). How far can I bore the 502? And I see all this business about A-body, G-body, and so forth. . . What's the difference?

Any information and all of your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jon.

Welcome to ECC Jon.

Ahhhh...to be 16 and naive. http://elcaminocentral.com/users/elcamino/Eye%20Spin.gif Have you given any thought as to how you're going to send all of that horsepower to the rear tires?

Prior to 1978, the 4th generation El Camino was designated as the part of the A-body car line. In 1978 GM introduced the 5th generation El Camino. GM continued to use the A-body designation for the 5th generation even though the 5th generation was based on a new platform. In 1982 GM changed the platform designation from A-body to G-body. So, 78-81 5th gen Elkys are designated as A-bodys and 82-88 5th gen Elkys are designated as G-bodys.

What type of supercharger? Like the Paxton? I think with the 3" Cowl you'd be able to get that one under the hood. I can't sware to that.

However with racing in mind, you'd want something other than the Dual Plane intakes. That is going to be the gotcha, if I read the post correctly. Just cut the hood and install a blower. I'll be much happier!

the 502 can go .060 most BBCs can with little problems.
