Now that I have settled down on this site..I would like to type some personal words of how I got to be an "El Camino Guy"
My first E.C. was in 1964. It was a low mileage car, that I bought from a guy here in town.
The car had a factory 348 ci., 3x2, 4 speed with posi. I feel in love with that car and had numerous "street races" in my home town of Santa Barbara Ca....( picture American Graffitti).
I didn't have the car long before a friend of mine offered me a deal on a race prepared "409" ci motor, out of a "C Gasser" '56 Chevy.
I figured that I just had to have it...so in went the "409"
during the next few years I had a lot of fun with that car..'cause it was such a sleeper...the car looked stock with stock full hubcaps and rims except for the"409" flag emblems on the front fenders.
I used to get a kick out of racing guys that thought the car was a stock 348 ci.
Well I have rambled enough for now of these fond memories that are still etched in my mine so the end to the story is, sadly, as with all things...that chapter in my live came to end...but I have more Elky stuff to contribute...so stay tuned.
P.S. I always have wondered what ever happened to that car and everytime I see a '60 E.C. I always take time to check it out 'cause it may just have those "409" flag emblems on the front fenders...
Any one ever have a White '60 Elky with those type of markings? And all the factory stuff??
Anybody else got any "El Camino Guy" stories"??

Pretty cool, I always wanted a '59 El Camino when I was in high school. Never got one but my parents car at that time was a '60 Impala with a 348. It was a 4 door but it did have glasspacks, not because my dad was a car guy but because they were cheap. Then they traded it for '68 Ford Torino Country Squire station wagon! :( Definitely a blow to what little shred of "cool" status I had.......... That wagon would be a real cool cruiser today but back then it was a "death" sentence to any chance I had of being cool cruising "the loop".

I had a few chevys in my day...a S.S. Chevelle, a couple of Monte Carlos, a Camaro or two...bought a rough but good running '68 El Camino 20 years ago...307, auto, marina blue, A.C., and plenty of rust. Driving it home, I felt this was one of the coolest cars I'd ever owned. Started body work, and then moved out of state to Cali. The car set unregistered for over a year, times got tight, and my pops sold it for me while I was in California (I needed cash!). Never forgave myself...until last year when I picked up a '68 almost identical to it...only green w/ivy gold interior. I'm not moving to Cali anytime soon, this one I will NOT be selling...it's all mine!

Actually I own a 60 with a 348 and a powerglide. It used to be white as is evidenced by the white firewall (exterior paint is now black paint that is so rough, it looks like alligator skin). It came from Cali, so the rust is not as bad as it others I have seen. I have a 454 from a 71 Monte Carlo SS that I will be replacing the 348 with. I am looking at getting a stick (maybe a Richmond 6 if I can afford it).

The 59 / 60 body style has always been my favorite - looks like Batman's pickup. I have previously owned a 78 and an 82 that were great cars, but I finally found my 60 that is currently a SLOW work in progress.
