So I talked to a guy who works at Circuit City. Anyway he advised 2 12"s with an amp to each with a pair of capacitors(sp). This sounds like overkill, but Circuit City replaces ANYTHING you break(amp, sub, anything) straight up for a new one. So that gives me free ability to go crazy on my system without fear of breaking something. I was thinking to mount the 12"s in the wall but have 2 6x9's angled to an x across the cab, good 3.5"s in the door and maybe another 6x9" pair in the middle of the wall stacked verticle. Any Input? (I will be boxing the subs and 6x9's)

2 capicitors is overkill unless your pushing 3000 watts, a 1 fahrad cap is plenty for a elky,if not too much. Look down in this section for a post called "Look", this post has a link to stereo stuff. As far as 2X 12's. depends on if you wanna thump the neighborhood and impress,,nobody, or hear REAL MUSIC and just accent it with some good quality bass. I'd go with 2 X 10's. And for the other speakers, that sounds like it'll work fine.
P.S. - Sales reps will sell you the world and get you a good maintenance plan, but we are common folk, we can't handle the "whole world". Buy what YOU need, not what the sales rep wants to sell you. Research the net, the site in here and also use crutchfield, they have good advise too.
just my 2 cents, sorry :)

u don't need a capacitor for 2 12's, if you do then im sure the sales guy mentioned a high output alternator (propably not, cause they don't sell that). i have 2 12's in mine and it is a little over kill cause the space is so small. but it not so loud that the neighbors complain and if they do oh well.
but u can save more space by putting 2 quality 10's and crank up the watts. i would go with component speakers instead of 6x9 cause back fill is no that important in an el co. it all comes down to preference so get what U want but make sure to research and everything before u buy. circuit city woun't always replace physically damaged things only electrical and internal.

capacitors are used if your using amps that require allot of power (watts). it depends on what your running. If you run allot of watts, and you lights interior and headlights dim when you thump, you NEED a capacitor. Nuff said about capicitors !!!!
P.S. - if your running 3-400+ watts of continuous power, why tax your alternator and battery, when the safe bet is run a 1 fahrad capicitor, just to be safe ? Its better to have it than be in some plcae where your stuck without jumper cables to bail uir ass out.
Just my thoughts. better safe than sorry

Hey guy's
I'm new to this forum but I have been making a living installing for 17 years and I would like to clarify a few things for you.
Think of a cap as a battery with an extremly low storage capacity, because of this it is only good for short burst of energy. As fast as they discharge they need to charge so if you have issues with supplying power to your system you will also have issues supplying power to the cap. Before buying a cap spend a little money on some wiring, let me explain.
Your stock wiring is barely enough to supply your car with what it needs so as soon as you add a stereo you tax the system to where nothing is getting what it needs and thats why you get dimming dash lights. If you replace your underhood wiring with a larger wire gauge you will notice a huge improvment to your stereo, lights, starter, and anything else electrical in your car, guys have even told me that their car runs better because they are getting better voltage to the coil.
Start by changing the charge lead from the alt to the battery, 90% of the time 4awg is good enough. When you do this also upgrade your grounds from the engine block to the battery, battery to chassis and battery to body.
If you want you can also upgrade your alt to one from a full load power window a/c car because they do have a higher output.
If you feel that you still want to waste your money after this feel free but I guarantee this will make a bigger difference.
