I was thinking of shaving the door handles off my 80 El Camino. Has anyone have any tips for me before I start filling my holes

Well, to start, you'll need at least a pair of 35lb door pulls. I did mine, was a real PITA getting strong enough pullers.

Did you mig the sheet metal in? Thats what im planing but keep hearing horor stories about warping the panels ( HATE TO DAMAGE GOOD DOORS)LOL. :oops:

Trucks TV did a show on custom metalwork the weekend of June 7th. One of the mods they did was shaved door handles. They did a pretty good overview about how to do it and pointed out some things a lot of folks miss the first time they do one, like contour-matching the patch piece.

They MIGged it in using little spotwelds moving around and around the patch until they had a complete 360-degree bead to hold down warping, then ground it down with a flap wheel for the same reason. Still needed a little hammer and dolly work, but not much.

According to their schedule, it runs again the weekend of August 23rd.

If you want to wait that long... :-D
