Hello everyone! A few months ago my mom and I were going on a shopping trip (you know how girls are :) ) and we drove past a 1983 El Camino, dark blue, sitting on the side of the road for sale. I've always been attracted to the El Caminos, so seeing as I was in the market for a car I stopped to look at it. The owner had unfotunately left it sitting in a field (he was working on rebuilding it and got sick, so he wasn't able to work on it, but didn't want to sell it to someone who did/could) and although the underside was almost completely unrusted, the engine was pretty much shot, and the paint was bubbling all over the car, but the guy insisted he wouldn't take less than 4k. So I went online, looked for months for El Caminos that were in good shape, and finally found one, an 82 Conquista, about an hour away from my home. We drove over to look at it, test drove it, and bought it, right then and there!
The guy had been rebuilding it for his girlfriend, and had put new air shocks, front and rear suspension, and posi traction, as well as getting it repainted and having a new winshield put in. Things didn't work out between the two, and he got the Elky, the better part of the deal if you ask me! They had bought the car in 1992, and the last thing I have records of is from 1996 they bought new tires. They must have split up right about then because you could tell the tires were hardly used. The A/C doesn't work, and they had it looked at and some parts replaced, but he told me they said it must be a leak somewhere. The guy was asking $3399 and I was able to talk him down to $2800. The sad thing is, he didn't clean it up at all before I came to look at it, and I still can't get all the stuff off the seats. There's practically no rust, none that's visible from just looking anyways, but the bedliner (spray in) needs to be replaced. The engine is a V6, and doesn't have much power at the moment due to needing the carborator rebuilt and needing a tune-up, since it had been sitting for the better part of 8 years, and a few things done to make it just up there with perfect, but I have my dream car, and the coolest car in my town, seeing as the kids here are all into those little ricers and **** cars from movies like the Fast and the Furious. (I love when they come over to test my control and rev their ricers up...."YING YING YING YIIIIIIIIIIIIING!" Turn Ellie on, and even before having the engine in top shape, she drowns it right out. The look on their face= )
My future plans are to have the interior professionally scrubbed if needed, get a new bedliner sprayed in, replace the hood as it's sort of rough, get a new exhaust system, fix up the engine and carb, and get my driver's license! :-D Oh, and did I mention make sure that my boyfriends don't date me for my truck? :P
