I recently purchased this motion activated, battery powered third brake light from www.brakeflasher.com

This little device operates with a mercury switch so tilting it forward or decelerating activates it. All you do is stick it on the rear window, adjust it so it is level and that's it. And believe it or not, this thing actually works! At first it required very heavy braking so I followed the instructions and adjusted the mercury switch. After a couple of adjustments it now flashes the LEDs on even light braking. It occasionally flashes on a steep downhill or when hitting a bad bump such as a speedbump but that is perfectly acceptable in my book. The only real drawback is that it does not remain lit once the car stops, for that you would need a hard wired light.

At only $23.99 it's well worth it as an auxiliary brake light and you can move it from car to car. Last night I put it in the window of my wife's Seville to warn all the morons in SUVs to keep off her tail in the snow. I was impressed how well it worked, those bright flashing LEDs really get your attention.

If you think that one is bright, you should see the 10 LED brake light I bought from them. Mine doesn't have a mercury switch, it operates directly off the brake switch and only draws 100mA. I'm very satisfied with mine too.
