Finally got the wheels and tires I got for Christmas mounted. I think they strike a good balance between modern looks and classic appeal. The wheels are obviously Torq Thrust II's - 17x8 (4-inch backspace and -11 mm offset) on both ends. Tires are Kuhmo's - 235x45x17 front and 255x50x17 rear. No clearance problems anywhere thanks to all the great info/research I was able to access from posts here (many thanks to all...).
Whadaya think?

You Know what i think! Keep them clean..don't use ANY abrassive polish...also only clean the rims when they are cool! I use Mother's "billit" polish on mine and it keep's them perfect looking. I like the larger 50 series meats in back, very nice there man!
They will look graet always! Congrats!

Looks real nice I always like those wheels on almost any vehicle. What is the type of bed cap do you have and some idea on what they go for thanks ed ke6bnl

It's a Gaylord. It was on it when I got it. Think they run about $700 ~ $800.
I've got mixed emotions about it. It think the hard covers are the best, and they provide good security, but they sure limit your ability to carry "stuff". Also, it's very wet in Hawaii and I've noticed a it tends to promote water condensing on the chrome trim around the bed. I'm VERY paranoid about rust over here. This is my second '83. Had the first one for about 12 years here, then the rust monster finally took it for good and I had to give up on it.
I think the hard covers also tend to spoil the lines of the Elky a little. I really like the line as it curves from the roof down to the bed .
On balance if I didn't get one with it when I bought it, I personally wouldn't spend the money on one.

Wheels and tires look great. You elky is super clean. 17" TT rims always look good on a classic chevy. I think the 45 front and 50 rear rubber is a good choice. It's not rubber band thin, nor is it too tall. Notice any handling/ ride improvements?
