It now looks like I need to rebuild the Quadrajet on my '85ss 305.
I would like to get a performance Secondary "Damper" to decrese the lag of the secondaries opening ( or modify the one there by drilling out the vacumn orifice). Would like to take the lag down from 3 seconds to something like 1 to 1.5 seconds.
Does anyone know where to find one of these already modified? Anyone done this modification?
Thanks,

YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW THIS.(PROBABLY DO)THE PART YOU REFERRED TO AS A DAMPER, THAT PICKS UP THE SECONDARY METERING RODS IS ADJUSTABLE BY SPRING TENSION, AS FAR AS HOW LONG IT TAKES TO OPEN. YOU WILL FIND AN ADJUSTER ON THE RIGHT SIDE REAR(TOP PLATE) A LOT OF SPRING TENSION IT WILL OPEN SLOWLY AND SMOOTHLY. LITTLE OR NO TENSION AND IT WILL SLAM OPEN POSSIBLY BOGGING THE ENGINE. YOU WILL HAVE TO FIND A HAPPY MEDIUM. THE SECONDARIES(IN THE BASE PLATE ) OPEN MAUALLY UNLESS OF COURSE THE CHOKE IS ON. IN THIS CASE IT WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL. YOU SHOULD OF COURSE CHECK THE ADJUSTMENT ON THIS FIRST.
I HOPE THIS HELPS IN SOME WAY. I WOULD SAVE THE SUPERSTOCK TRICKS FOR A LATER DAY.

Hey Just a little more info if the rebuilt quad you picked is not the Electronic controlled version you can get a strip kit from edelbrock. Theses kits are not cheap but then you get a full set of jets metering and rods primary rod springs and rods for the secondaries. these will all help ou dial in the carb you have now
