Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems with their factory cruise control units on their cars. I have a 71 Buick GS conv. and a 70 El Camino SS 396 both with factory cruise control set ups. Unfortunately, both cars cruise controls arent working. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction as to where to look to fix it? Has anyone else had a problem with these units?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

I have had many years experience with cruise controls. The first things you need to check are the most obvious... cables and or linkage to the carb, vacuum lines and speedometer cables. Anything that will cause erratic speedometer operation will affect cruise operation, (kinked or dry speedo cable etc.) Baring the obvious, the problem is most likely a defective transducer, cruise switch or wiring.

The speedometer works fine on both the GS and the El Camino. I would assume that the speedo cable that goes from the trans to the transducer on the inner fender is good since the speedometer in the dash works good with no pulsating. I would kinda lean towards the transducer electrical part not working. Would anyone know where or who rebuilds them or an auto parts store that might carry a rebuilt one?
Im going to be taking a long trip with both cars and would like to have the cruise control working in at least one of them.

Not sure where you could get them in your area, but I have two different styles available here. The two wire type, and the two wire type with resume function. You can use the two wire type in place of the three wire type. Both are 75.00 shipped.

Acauth1,
I have a friend with a 78 Elky that has a bad transducer. Do you rebuild these units or sell them regularly? Would you have one for his application? It does not have the resume feature. I'll pass on the info when you respond. Thanks!

I bought a handful of rebuilt ones a few years ago which I still have. GM only built three types. The three wire, the two wire, and the two wire with resume feature.
