Hey all,
I bought my two Dual 12" subs, but I plan on takin them out of the plexiglass box they came in and making something to fit behind the seats. I know I've seen this done on many of the El Caminos here, I just am having a problem thinking of how to attach this box to the rest of the car. I can find the dimensions and all of that good stuff, but I just can't seem to understand how to hold it down to the rest of the car. If anyone at all could help me out, I'd really appreciate it. I'm kinda at a loss right now.

Thanks,
Miguel

You could make some fasteners that screw into the brackets for the rear deck transition pad going into the storage box from the back floor boards. You wouldn't need much. The big plastic transition step at the opening is held down by screws to some brackets attached to the floor pan. There are something like 6 or 8 running under it. Use some small thin strap steel bend it to a large U drill for a sheet metal screw to the floor pan bracket. Run those under the carpet if your recessing the sub box, to the box and once you've done that carpet over them on the box or you could make them loose so that the box could be removed moderately easy.

Or you could use some of the brackets for the safety straps that held in the spare tire, cover that with carpet. What ever you decide if you poke a hole in the floor pans use some sealant top and bottom to keep down corrosion points. You can get body and seam sealer at a lot of auto supplies. You only need a Calk Gun to apply it. It stays malleable and adheres to the surfaces just like house calk, lasts almost for ever.

You could fab some brackets to screw to the underside of the bed or top of the storage box also, if I was to do that I'd probably go in from the top. I was thinking about just putting in a few 2" screws through the bed floor into the top of the box. I'll have a bed caddy sitting over that and carpet in the bed so for me that works.

I've studied this a lot since I am at that spot with my 80. Having nothing but a shell body has it's advantages. You can see everything and its kind of easy to imagine what you want without all the trim and decoration in the way.
