I'm putting in new carpet and wondered if anybody used the 3M Scotchguard (or any similar product) on it after getting it laid in. I'm a diesel mechanic and a camper so stuff is gonna get on it. I bought some good floor mats to keep the crud off the front. Behind the seats is a different story.

I trust something like it better. As a profesional carpet cleaner of 28 years fabric protector works but it depends on your method of cleaning, extraction only, the hotter the better, 210 degrees best. Over the long run a solvent carried fabric protectant is far superior to water carried. Carpet is a plastic and oil covers and creeps over it better. soil in the interior is still oil partical bound or bonded to the surfaces. If I recieved a call to apply fabric protectant to a El Camino it would cost $25.00 and last three extraction cleanings, One extraction cleaning after two shampooings. 8)

Roader, is the brand name Fabric Protector or were you just talking in general about a fabric protector?
