I have a 95 Cutlass supreme as my daily driver.... I had to have a fuel pump installed (i bought part), had it towed to his shop... Labor and tow was $250.00
= labor 200.00/tow $50

I haven't had the car long, and wanted him to check the motor, it had some problems, (bad knock in the motor).... He installed the fuel pump and said he got it started and it threw a rod... there was oil all over the floor.(i saw it) it also twisted the top of the plug... He told me that he would install a new motor for $650, it was little rich for my blood but, i said ok and i would pay u a little along each week till i'm done....

i found a motor, put it on the back of my elky and told him i was on my way, ; he said bring it tomorrow i can't find the hoist right now!!!! PISSED ME OFF!!!, then he said it would cost me $800 for the work...

There was a guy at the junkyard that offered to put it in for me,,,, he does it on the side.. He said he would do it for $300, He lives on the other side of town, (not a problem),,, the problem is I can get him to answer his cell to drop the frickin motor off.....Granted I know he works during the day like most of us but, answer your frickin phone... I went by his house last night to make sure it existed and it does... Very big garage, the door was down , he might have been putting a motor in a car that he was telling me about.....

Does anyone know of a good backyard mechanic in columbus, ohio.... u someone u take your stuff to and drop it off and know it will be done right!!!!

Sorry for the long post!!!

Maybe it is time Ray to learn how to swap the engine yourself. It is cheaper!

I'd say, you not knowing how yet, you could do it in a weekend. Its really not difficult. You get a buddy and a six pack of brew and take your time. Take pictures so you'll know how everything looks when its back together. Use some masking tape to label the wires and number the plug wires. Around here the Junk yards will generally slap those engines in for you for an extra 100 bucks or so.

Junk Yard engines are not all that reliable. You never know what you going to get or who owned it or how they drove it or what type of maintanance they did or didn't do to it. Personally, I'd rebuild it before I put it in the truck. But that is just me, I like to know what I have and what condition its in.

If someone is going to run it into the ground its going to be me. :D

Good Luck and I'm sorry to hear your having a time getting someone to do this. I'd do it for you for the 2 bills if I lived close enough. I'd even encourage you to be there so that you cold learn how to do it. If you don't know. I know sometimes I'd just like to pay someone to do it rather than do it myself.

Thanks "ElkyPete"

I've never done one of these side winders before ; its in a 1995 Cutlass supreme..

I was fortunate enough to find one that was still in the car and got to hear it run and to see if it had any leaks,, etc.... I just asked my wife if she thought i could it and she said yes....

So I will have it towed back to my house maybe saturday and start tearing it down and I will probably grab my son, he likes helping me do stuff like that!!!

I guess i just needed some encouragement from my friends on Elky Central!!!!!

Just a tip/suggestion: It might be easier to pull the tranny out with it and slap it back in as a complete unit. I work at an Auto repair shop and that's how we did a 1995 Grand Prix w/ a 3.1 V6 in it. Good luck!

Ok my weekend has been eventful...

I got oil(milkshake)drained from the pan,,, unbolted the motor mounts, exhaust, unpluggged and disconnected as much stuff as i could to get the motor and trans out but, something is holding it... I double checked all of the mounts, zip tied, labled hoses, etc,... The reason i can tell that something isn't freed up is because the engine lift that i rented will lift off the ground on one side and then stop lifting...

Can someone guide me as to the steps in disconnecting the trans axle... I have it unbolted(passenger side) but not sure if I need to do anything else..

I need to get this thing out, disconnect the tranny and mount it up to the replacement motor sometime tomorrow(hopefully early, i rented the lift)...

We got errr in this weekend. I haven't bolted or plugged everything in yet but, the main thing is that i got it in and got a couple of the major mounts bolted down...

I managed to swap out the power steering pump and alternator. i kept the starter also, just in case the other dies...

Now I plan to spend the evening; tightening bolts and plugging, but the top of the list is to make sure that the drive axles are connected properly.

I think that as of right now i have approximately 10-12 hrs into the labor right now...(not bad for my first sidewinder)

Thanks to all of you for your help and encouragement...
