Good afternoon everyone,

With 2004 far behind us and the 2005 car show season ahead of us, I would like to take this opportunity to update everyone on the status of El Camino Central/ National El Camino Owners Association Region 2. Overdue, yes. My apologies. I hope you and your family had a safe and wonderful holiday season. While, the snowflakes continue to fall in New England, spring is fast approaching (at least on the calendar) and so does the ’05 season.

If I had to summarize our regions ’04 season, I would say it was the continuation of putting names with faces (and El Caminos) at car shows and cruises. Going from an Internet based online car club to a physical car club is really working out and we continue to grow. I have a total of 95 names that are on my email notification list. This includes, members and vendors.

Car shows:
One of my goals is to talk to car show organizers about having a separate “El Camino” class for their shows. But for this to happen, we have to actively attend the shows that currently have an El Camino class. When a show goes out on a limb to have an El Camino class, we as a club, have to participate. With this in mind, I have had communication with one of our regional members (Michelle Jelley) who is also
Membership Officer as well as a Member of the Board of Directors of the East Coast Camaro Club, and they sponsor a car show called East Coast Camaro Club All Vehicle show to be held on September 11th, rain or shine. They are very receptive to the idea of having a separate class for El Camino’s IF WE CAN COMMIT TO HAVING 10 EL CAMINOS attend. I believe we should be able to do this. Please respond back to me if you can commit to this car show.

The following list is not meant to be “all inclusive”, just a listing of some shows to get the discussion going. If you have a show that you want to share with other members, definitely post it on ECC in the Region 2 forum and the ECC calendar. If you want me to send out the info or help in any way, just send me the info via email.

I’ll be starting an individual post for each show on the Region 2 forum. Feel free to update and or correct any misinformation I may have written. I will need help in double checking dates, times, club affiliations, web sites, etc. Please check the ECC region 2 forum often.

Cruises:
Please feel free to use the Region 2 forums to post info on your favorite cruises.

Area Coordinators needed:
As the New England region becomes more active and we continue to go to shows / cruises together, I am looking for volunteers to become "Area Coordinators" for VT, NH, and ME. Please contact me directly if you’re interested.

Legislation notifications:
We continue to monitor, maintain awareness, and notify our Region 2 members regarding legislation that affects our hobby. I check the SEMA web site for current information that impacts our hobby. We need to continue to talk or email our Massachusetts legislatures regarding H.D. 652 (House Draft). This bill proposes to ban the sale or installation of “an exhaust system, which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust”. Please check out this URL for more information: http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?ID=61741

Communication:
We have increased our usage of El Camino Central’s Region 2 forums with 36 topics and 167 posts. This is the premier way of communicating (along with email) and letting others know of our interests. For some of the new regional members, I try and pass most of the regions information via email. Plus, I do use the ECC Region 2 forums, and the ECC calendar. So check those areas out and update / contribute as much as you feel comfortable doing. Region 2 forums start at: http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=23

Member profile:
Old school / New school, purists, customs, total restorations, modified, garage queens, daily drivers and everything in between. We really don’t have any specific “profile”, so to speak, and that what keeps thing interesting.

We have also seen a noticeable increase in the amount of younger el Camino owners. I view this as a very important indication of the viability, expandability, and future of our hobby. The younger members also bring a different and fresh point of view of El Camino’s including lowering, different style wheels, sound systems, etc. While some of our other members go for the more conservative perspective. It should make for a nice mix at car shows.

Vendor:
I’d like to introduce a car shop called Chop-Shop Customs. Chop-Shop Customs is a custom auto body, metal work and paint facility in Fitchburg ,Massachusetts. They also handle Massachusetts’s stated-value appraisals for custom and modified cars, trucks and motorcycles. Contact Lenny and Dana Schaeffer at: chopshopcustoms@comcast.net and check out their web site at: http://www.chop-shopcustoms.com/

Also check out over 70 automotive DVDS including 17 Chevrolet at
www.classicsunlimitedvideo.com . Thanks Ron rtheroux1@juno.com

Please be sure to check out and patronize ECC’s sponsor page at: http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=3
