This is a question you usually only find on 4x4 sites and since there isn't a tires/wheels forum. I guess I'll ask it here.

Whats the biggest and widest tires you've fit in the rear of your Elky?
I've got 15x7 inch rims and I'm wanting to get the biggest tires under the rear that I can without tubbing the bed. When I change my gear ratio, I'll be doing it while considering what size tire it will be running. (3.73 or 4.10)

I'm going for the dragster look here. I won't be going to nuts with it but, hey the big meaty rear with smaller/narrower front always gets me excited. (Funny, you'd think I'd like my women the same way)

Do a SEARCH (http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=search) for "the biggest tire" or "the widest tire". You'll find your answer.

After you do that search and read the results you will be more confused then you are now. On 5th Gens there will be lots of disageements; people will tell you that 11" wheels with 315 tires are no problem and others (like me) will tell you "no way". Good luck.

I am finding that!. Hmm. the fender rolling is looking like a good idea. with some rims that have different backspacing it should work out well. I want WIDE tires. I guess I'll have to look around because I haven't found anything approaching a defintive answer yet.

The quest continues................

Depends on the backspacing of the rim. 255/60s can work.

At what Backspacing!

I still havent figured that one out. I have heard for a 15" that 8" wide with 4" of Backspacing will net the largest tire on a 5th gen. Is this true?

You're best off staying with a maximum backspacing of 4". Much more than that and you'll have to use spacers to avoid having the inside of the tire rubbing the frame rail.

I'm more the type that likes the look of wide tires all the way around on a street car / Hot Rod type. I have 50 series on mine (5th gen) whcich are pretty wide. 8" rims can deal with up to, what a 40, no problem. With a 40 series I'd go with a 3.5 or 3.75 BS on the rims to be more comfortable, for me, and possibly roll the fender wells if needed. I would only go about 50s on the front though. Its just my way of looking at the steerig system and problems that I think can happen if you get too outrageous with front meat.

I think a moderate low stance on the 5th generation Elkys looks best for my tastes with some fat tires. My 76 sits up higher but I like that for that truck.
