What does "Super Sport" mean (label around door lock) and "Body by Fisher" (door opening)

Still today Fisher is the division that manufactures the body and parts for GM cars and trucks. Super Sport was an Option. A lot like the "LS" on some cars now days (Luxury Sport). SS was generally an option package that had desirable factory options for the time. Generally they more engine (more HP), bucket seats, things like that.

Basically they are Logos but to the Chevy people they speak volumes and bring about thoughts of good horse power (Muscle). A true SS w/proof can increase the re-sale as much as 30% over the same non SS Chevelle/Elky etc... I am pretty sure that on the higher sport car line (Corvette) you'll never see the SS emblems. It was always under stood that was a Sport Car.

That has been my understanding for the past 30 or more years.

Thank you 87SS and ElkyPete... now i have to find that Super Sport part of my car (if any). Is Fisher part of that SS?
