im almost positive i broke my right rear breake line, all of a sudden the pedal went from normal to having to push it almost all the way down to get it to stop. also my brake light on the console came on, and there was brake fluid all around the rear wheel and drum.

my question is now what? is replacing the brake line pretty easy to do, and how much/where can i get a replacement?
thanks
josh

First you will need to know exactly where the leak is coming from, if it is a bad wheel cylinder then you will need to get a replacement and new shoes. for both sides. Since it is at the brake drum then I would assume it is not at the flex line going to the rear end. Replacement brake lines are avialable at nearly all autoparts stores. You will want to get the same length and have the proper ends. You will probably be putting in a piece of line from the TEE on the rear end to the brake cylinder. With out getting fancy you can pretty much bent the line by hand. There are places like inline tube and classic brakes that have pre bent line but you can do it your self, it is faster and much cheaper give us more details and we may be of more help after you check it out further, you will need to bleed the brakes when it is all reconnected. More than likely a wheel cylinder.

If for some rare reason it is the line do not attempt to replace it with a copper line: Brake pressure could cause copper to rupture. :-( Also, don't attempt to flare a steel line unless you have the proper equipment [whatever it is].

When bleeding the brakes start with the longest line and one by one work your way to the shortest, ie; right rear, left rear, right front, left front.

You can find all your brake parts at most Auto parts stores.
Advance Auto Parts has:
rear wheel cyl ( l&r) $8.36 ea
Master cyl (w/power) $27.97
front calipers(rebuilt) $12.44 ea
front brake hose $12.88 ea
rear brake hose $4.28
rear shoes $15.99
Hardware kit-rear $4.82

Those are the cheaper prices, you can go up from there. Don't forget the brake fluid!

Hope this gets you back on the road. DO take the time and check your brake lines for accumulated rust and replace them while your at it, it will be worth it for your own piece of mind. ( Mine too, if I see you on the road
:) ).

my brake line broke actually, from lifting the car with a jack to replace the front rotor. weird, but that's how it happened.... i went to test the brakes and it just pissed right out from under the drivers side under the door. the brake line was so rusted it just broke.

what you need is double flare.... you can rent them from autozone it's cheaper than buying one if you don't plan on flaring too much. i had to rerout all my lines because the guy that pwned the car before me did everything with compression fittings and it needed to be converted. what a chore.

good luck. i feel for you, man and i'm in the same boat. :(
