newbie seeks help decoding Vin for 1977 el camino.
It is 1D80U7R403413.

I am still reading all the threads to learn about decoding, but I thought I would start this thread to get my information. I also would like links to VIN decoding... I remember seeing a site a month or so ago, but my searches aren't finding it.

You can call GM and get the vintage research number, call them and give them your VIN code and they will send you a package with EVERYTHING about that car. From the interior color and trim codes, engineering specs on suspension steering etc etc etc....EVERYTHING. There is a fee. Up here in Canada it cost's around 50$. So it's prob. free in the US.
Hope this helps.

i saw a link to get a copy of the original invoice from 1977 and later. Im sending my VIN info to them.
have you gotten yours, does it really tell about original colors too? cool
do I need to supply them with cowl tag info, they didnt ask for it. it is going to cost me $50 too...

by the way freakyelk,
I notice that our pride and joys are both 77's. lets stay in touch. Im getting my first elky on the road in a few days. you can read my info in the thread above. ive got a four barrell holley carb, ralley wheels, and a lot of work to do...
should we start a 77 group thread?

thanks again,
Matthew

The springs in the back were put in the same day that the pic was taken, so she was still riding a little high. She sits a bit lower in the back now and looks much better. Tires are 235-65r-15's in the back and 225-60r 15's in the front(i think). it's beem a long time.
