Hey guys-

As my first post I have to say- DAMN! why hadn't I found this place earlier?? I mean I have had my Camino since december and I wish I had you guys to get some feedback from! Anywho- I was just wondering if I was the youngest Camino owner, I think I am at mychevytruck.com. I am 15 (16 on the 22nd) so If anyone can beat 7/22/87. If not- I expect some sort of trophy or award in the mail right? Thanks!

I put in a new Clarion head unit and some cheap speakers in a box i made in the back just so I could have some tunes. 305 automatic trans. Working on getting a window tint, and rear rollpan. HTH- anybody going to challenge me?? come on you youngin's!!

i got my 85' conquista when i was 15. im 19 now, still runs perfect. i dont know why you are bragging do you even have your drivers license yet? i had mine before i could even drive. i would just go out and sit in it waiting until the day i could drive it. still runs perfect, although it does have a few dents, but they weren't my fault.

haha no I cant just yet- not until the 23rd is when i get my license. But oh well- so I am not the youngest. That's ok- I just hate being stuck in the middle as the 3rd or 4th youngest. haha. Well cya guys around.

we have a law here that when you turn 16 you can't drive past dark, and have to drive by yourself, or with an adult present. they enforced it 2 months after i got my license :-D

NJLuke
07-17-2003, 05:09 AM
Yeah we have that here in florida too- except it is you cant drive past 11:00 unless going to or from work. But you dont have to drive alone or anything- and they really dont enforce the 11:00 thing cause I have been out with the girlfriend many a times later than 11:00  . Looks like i dont win- that's too bad...as usual getting stuck in the middle...

Well, I missed being the youngest by 8 days. My birthday is on 11/10/87. I got my 1982 Conquista the Saturday of Father's Day weekend (Happy Father's Day, Dad! You get to buy me an El Camino!) I have my temps/permit now, so of course we take the El Camino out to run errands, visit people, or just to cruise. As it is, she (Ellie) sits safely in the driveway surrounded in enough to keep the other cars from banging into her, and only has a few minor things to be taken care of, other than a tuneup. In fact, I almost have my dad talked into using the new shed we're going to get for her. Sure, we defeat the purpose of getting more storage space for lawn mowers and the such, but it would be horrible for my Ellie to have to sit in the driveway when my brother's Trans Am shell would get the shed :D So I'm not the youngest, but almost there...Only 8 days.. :)

I'm 16, 1-28-87, I got my El Camino this summer, but I already had my license for a few weeks. 8)

07-23-2003, 07:54 PM
Although I wish in a way that I had waited until I got my license to get my El Camino, I waited and looked around long enough, and finally found the perfect one for me, pricewise and condition alike. Thankfully the price was to my advantage since the guy had it sitting there after a breakup, and I know for sure that NONE of my boyfriends would be allowed to keep my Ellie under ANY circumstances...Hell, I doubt they'll even be allowed to drive it!
Also, as the youngest of the family and being the more responsible of the kids, my parents favored the "favorite daughter" and bought her her dream car...They haven't even asked me for my payments yet! How's THAT for a deal?

Another youngster out here. I got my el camino from my grandfather who lived in georgia when i was 14, im now 16 and still have a long way to go before she'll be the way i want her. I have to say the best money i spent on it was a new edelbrock carb, the old quadrajet was junk if you ask me. So hey luke if you wanna make that baby a little sweeter id pick up an edelbrock carb, dont mess around with that street legal stuff, get the good stuff for "off road" use. cheaper too. You wont have your egr anymore if you go they way i went, i failed my emissions test but hey i can do some mad burnouts!

Well it's good to see some of the younger generation interested in some good ole American iron instead of those annoying rice burners. I'm 21 and although I don't own a Elky yet I do own a 1972 Chevelle SS that I bought when I was 15 and have restored from the ground up and even to this day it still isn't finished although now all it needs is just some minor detail work done. All I can say to you from my experience is body and paint work will cost you the most to have done and to take your time and have fun doing it because thats what this hobby is all about.

I bought my first El Camino two weeks after I turned 15. Now two years later I own three. Watch it these cars become very addicting. My friends think that I am crazy because I got El Camino on the brain. You picked the best truck to own!

Well I too am 16, but I've been that old since the last Pearl Harbor Day. I got my elky back in March and have been fixing the damned piece of beauty since. So far there is a new battery, alternator, SS center caps (that fit the original wheels), air filter (big whoop), countless engine degreaser, and I'm currently replacing the rear axle after it just locked up on me. I'm not the youngest, but my car and I are the exact same age. It's an 87 conquista that was built on December 7th, 1986, same as me, how's that for fate?

Hey there - that's pretty cool about your Elky being "born" on the same day as you were. I wasn't quite that lucky, my birthday is November 10, 1987, but my elky is an 82. But hey -- at least my car can have a beer, right?

Seems like I'm the youngest for right now! 12/17/87 got my 1980 Elky a month ago and currently workin under the hood! V8 350 4 speed, just added a water pump, starter, alternator, and some new triple chrome Edelbrock valve covers! Dad takes me out on weekends to drive and it runs great. I get my permit in 9 weeks 8)

I am 16 and i recently got my 1978 el camino. The guy painted over all the chrome so it is really red. Under the hood i have a 400 small block with a crane cam, forged pistons, holley 650 carb, hooker headers, brand new dual exhuast, reupholstered interior, converted to a manual with a hurst shifter on it, the list goes on. I am not younger than you buy my car will kick your ass :P (pictures can be acquired through email because the files are too big to put on here, supergerbel@aol.com) goodnight, dont forget to tuck the elky in before you head off.

Well, I know I'm not the youngest, but I figure why not go through the index of previously owned cars? When I was 12 I bought my first car with the money I'd saved from my birthday and christmas stuff. A 1986 Camero, just a stock POS really. I needed work that I was unable to put into it so a year later it was sold. Next, at age 13 my uncle sold me his old MR2. 5sp car, nothing too fancy that was for certaint. After a swift move on my part, the neutral drop turned into a cilider fling. In short, I then possesed the only 3 cilinder motor I've seen. I didn't get another car until I was 15, that car I still own to this day. A 1987 Firebird. Nothing too fancy either really, but the body-style just looks mean. V6 (so I can afford the insurance on it) under the hood, auto tranny. Now, this year, at age 17 I inherited my El Camino from my uncle who had the thing for ages and just never figured out what to do with it. The masterpiece of a car sits now with the nose removed, I'm sandblasting the interior pieces, everything under the hood (minus the engine) and coating it in a black colored car apoxie. It will compiment the chrome colored 350 that I'm remodling right now nicely I think. And to think, all this accomplished with birthday money, and a 8 dollar and hour job!

Well.. born 11/09/88 for me.. got mine last.. september i think

I'll get some pictures for you guys to see..
The headers come in this Friday and I've put on a bigger intake manifold and Carbuerator since i bought it. New tires and new shocks. My dad helps with the work but lately i've been doing it myself. If i get lower than an A- in any of my classes i lose my car, so i have to juggle working on the car and studying and homework.. Sucks huh?..

well my bdays 02-21-88 8-) and Ive had to cars since i was 14 :) . i purchased a 92 oldsmobile after i had enough money from picking peaches then purchased a 1980 el camino when i was 15. Since i had the olds i ripped into the el camino and it lays in pieces waiting for cash to start reassembly. ( Mom wont let Dad pitch in cash to help me so im working as much as i can.) The frame is done and back together and i have the rear end painted and waiting to be overhauled and ive purchased a 350 and i have a Turbo 350 (wanting to find a 700R4 or a Manual). THe body work is done as far as Dad could accomplish and im working to get enough cash to get the body finished and ready to paint. I started in computers when i was younger and i have a IT job with the state of IL during the summer at a good ol 8.50 a hour and work in a peach orchard in the spring. All my friends dont know why i bother with a el camino (ones has a 92 camaro and the other a 73 Nova) but i think they have a radical look for a daily driver on todays roads with all these imports. My goal is to attempt to manage to blow any import away i meet and have the car driveable by senior year. But i must be off to write my 4 page research paper on a stonewall

I am 15, 4/24/88 Bday coming up..I first had a 72' Cutty that i fixed up and resold(stupid mistake) did it all by myself since my dad isn't a hands-on guy..No one in my family is, i just went to a super chevy show last summer, Never done anything like this before and heck i just took out the stock 267 on the one below and i built a 357(.040bore) Vortec heads, XE262,Flowtech gbody 1 5/8 headers, comp magnum roller-tips,reground cast crank, reconditioned rods w/ arp bolts, edelbrock performer rpm airgap and a Holley 650 double pumper spreadbore, single feed, manual choke carb sitting on top backed by a rebuilt TH350 w/ a hughes 2300-2500 street master...Its still in the process of getting done, i've read alot about cars/motors in the past 3/4 year lol. All of it by myself i guess working 3 jobs almost year round pays off eh?
This was me and my first car after i cleaned it up and resold it(bad bad idea) 72'Cutlass (http://elcaminocentral.com/users/erk/Cars/ericcar.jpg)

My son got his when he was 14 yr. 10 months (12/6/88). He won't have his learners permit until this June but has driven it on private property. Just enough time for us to get it all sorted out and ready for his permit. Great to have youth interested in classic cars. His '72 is still a youngen compared to my '49 GMC though.

Got mine when I was 14. Now I'm 15. 10/23/88. Got it from my grandpa when he died. A picture of it is in my profile. Speaking of old American cars, they're the best! hi, im not the youngest here ,16 in augest ,with an elky but i think i have the oldest( between us young people ).I got it in may 23 2003 and it had set since 1994 .It's a 67 ss clone when i bought the guy before me put bucket seats, ss hood, ss wheels from 69-70, and a 350 from a 70 to 73 camaro. Since ive had it ive put in a painless harness (bumper to bumper still working on that ) rebdone the carb and fabricated a insterment panel with auto meter gauges ( working on that to Done must of the work in spare time during shope class) . I think thats it .

heh, when I still had my el camino, it had a 4.10 spooled rear end.. that was hard driving around town, one of my favorite things with that car was, it was making about 450ish hp, so it was loud, louder then it needed to be, but anyways, I loved driving though parking garages setting off alarms buy just idiling by.. then I would have to turn the corner... chirp chirp chirp would say the back tires.

guru54
04-14-2004, 10:33 PM
Im doing a total nut and bolt restoration.

Rebuilding a 350
getting a 4 speed or 700R4
New rims
new tires
new exhuast
back brake conversion kit
whole new interior
Gotta rebuild a dash
new choo choo nose or camaro nose
roll pan
rebuilding the 7.5" rearend or finding a 12bolt
Hard fiberglass cover
and Body work
also need a crowl hood
Suspension

I got a lot to do but i basicly want to just get the car driveable by senior year then add the features as i go. So far im on track and dads just telling me along and letting me do it. I figuired if i was gonna put all this money and effort into this car imma do it right the first time. then when i go off to college dad said he would take care of it for me as he loves el caminos. Worst part right know is i keep getting stuck up in smaller projects like replacing all the sprockets and chains on out 4-wheelier and rebuilding and repainting our john boat. O by the way my town has 500 people who can beat that? and we have 1 police officer

p.s. even replacing parts counts.

hmmm.. what have i done already. pretty mediocre really...

rebuilt the carb
replaced all the hoses
tune ups every year(ie cap rotor plugs wires)
took off AIR pump and hoses
replaced the generator
put in a CD player
stereo speakers behind the seat :D
and pretty much just fix everything i break when i break it. :D
does all that count??? if you count what im "going" to do bet id win!! starting with a new tranny(THM 350) and the 350 4 bolt main i have here at work. and the new 3.73 reing and pinnion i havent bought yet. not to mention the gigantic body job the car is going to be! :D :) :( :-( man i need money.....

heh sorry i typed that at 2 or 3 am last night while i was typing a report :(

installed a dodge motor and new tranny into my dads 94 pickup (boy that was fun :? )

Totally rebuilt a carb
totally dissassembled my elky down to every nut and bolt
started work on my custom dash
installed new speakers and stero in my 92 oldsmobile
rebuilt a turbo 350
Havent had a chance to do a whole lot alot of my other stuff comes in as soon as i start spending my cash.

Before i got into cars i bascily had a pc repair heh although it wasnt a actually place or nothing i get calls from people saying i heard u can fix a pc and theyd drop it off and i would build custom rigs and i took care of my schools network problems to. I used my current pc to actually prove i knew what the hell i was doing as most people where skeptical. Current pc is set up as a Watercooled gaming machine (water block i hand made from copper) was a 1.8ghz overclocked to 2.5ghz CPU is a 2500+.

THen i modded xboxs for a while for a income while i picked peaches or mowed lawns or built pcs.

Erk

Whoever asked 357??..350 + .040 overbore =357cid.

If you have a 1.8 processor and you are overclocking it to 2.5 that would cause some serious CPU problems. Life-spand is going to be way down. Even if it is water-cooled. Its like running a processor on Nitrous but for a long period.

When i was 12, i badgered my dad about getting me one, and at the time, my older sister was actually in the running for a first car, so with me in mind, he bought a 77 GMC sprint. Body not in the greatest condition, but hey, its alaska, there's no such thing as a car that's been here for more than 7 years that's not got some kind of rust on it... So after she drove that for a year, my dad bought her a brand new Cavalier, i think that set him back like 12000 big ones. Guess what car was mine! :D So i drove that for a while... i got kinda tired of the brown, though, I always wanted a fifth generation el camino, too... The stock 305 eventually died in that car. Luckily, i picked up an 83 out of a junkyard for $350. It needed a new transmission and some minor surface rust work, but i've put a lot into this car. I've bought the paint from NAPA, i think it was 237 for the base coat black plus the clear coat. I must say, prepping the car for the paint is the most exhausting and repetetive work i've ever done. I've worked construction, but that wasn't as monotonous as sanding the car. Right now, i'm working on finding out how to get the trim off from around the windshield and the rear window, there's some rust right underneath that edge where the trim meets the paint. i've pretty much done all the other work for it. I bought some Cragar S/S rims for my car too, i had some worn out stock rally wheels on it right now in the front, and some western standard truck rims in the back. the Cragars are offset, the front ones are 14's, and i think 8 inches wide, while the back ones are 15's and 12 inches wide... heh heh, the nice muscle car look with these fun rims. I bought all new suspension to fit these rims in my car, KYB Gas-A-Just all around, and brand new coils. Cooper Cobra Radials on the rims. I used to be huge into having a loud system. but i had to sell my system to get money for the transmission... that was a little more important than having 2 Audiobahn Eternal series subs... :-( So yeah, i'm still working on the paint job on my car right now, i'll hopefully figure out how to post pictures and stuff by the time i'm done with that. BTW, this car's also got a stock 305 in it, i'm looking at upgrading to a bigger displacement, thinking a brown 383.:D Anyways- Peace

I Got you beat by almost 3 months 10/18/87. I bought it july 7th i have a learners permit so i have driven it already. 8)

Welcome!

Glad to have someone filling in the "front end" of the Elete Elky Ownership process. 18 October is my B/D too, (but only about 40 years earlier) so I'm up there with all the "Old Farts". Like my grandfather before me, they'll be taking my license away all too soon. When that day comes, maybe I can hitch a ride with you.

We do already have at least 3 good things in common (B/D, Elkys and ECC membership). Though I'm still a "newbie" I hope you find this group/website and it's membership as genuinely helpful as I have.

Best wishes.

I bought my 72 Camino when I was 13 paid $1800 needed a full engine rebuild new trans, and lots of other work. I got it finished by the time I was 16 and couldn't have been happier. Now I am 18 and still putting money into her like I did right when I bought her. I might not be the youngest with a birthday of 5/2/87 but I have had her for 5 years now.
