It appears there is interest in a road trip. Help me frame the general details and I'll coordinate the specifics - if there is still interest. Here's some general questions to get things started:

Which month would you prefer:
May
June
Other

How long of a trip (in days):
1 day
2 days
3 days
Other

How many miles would you like to drive:
100
200
300
Other

What type of destination:
Winery
Park
Museum
Tourist area
Other

Now open to most dates as long as I know at least two weeks in advance.

Over a weekend world be about as good as I could do.

I'll leave that up to others.

Someplace where we could gather and not have the police constantly bothering us. Maybe a Race track on a Saturday would or could be a destination. We could do some time runs and possibly have someone there with a Dyno set up so the people that would like to know what their rear wheel horse power is can find out. Generally you get two pulls for something like $75.00.

There is suppose to be a place in Dallas where Older Rides and Rods gather. I don't remember the name of the place but its a drive in type place. I could find out if necessary.

But now.... I am ready! Gas will cost us! Well, its going to cost me for sure.

Let's do it!

May is good for me a clean slate then.

1-2 days is good

up to 400 miles not a problem.

A park just to meet others with elky's is fine with me.

Count me in.

May is good. (nice weather)
June is good. (getting hotter)
July is good. (summertime)

2-3 days is fine.

Location would be a nice park for waxing and drinking beer. :-D

I'm still interested, Lou. Count me in.

May-no good-big vacation planned
June-perfect
July- fine, but getting hot in NE Texas

A weekend trip would be fine.

Distance & place? Don't care as long as the journey is scenic and the destination is fun. I lean towards parks and such, especially if we can camp, go to a lake, rent a ski boat, etc. I suggested the big park at Broken Bow, OK the other day at the meet. Nice mountain roads, good lake for fishing and skiing, and a big campground. Also, there is a lodge and cabins to rent for those who do not want to rough it in a tent.

OK, leave June 10 - 12th open. Let's nail the location. I'm not in favor of Dallas locations, due to I live in Dallas. However, I'm in for whatever ya'l decide. Given suggestion #2, maybe we camp out at Broken Arrow???? Another suggestion ... If you you are into camping and fishing, we could get a guide at Lake Fork (boat and gear) and we could camp out on my 90 acres (I'd have to displace some cows - they don't bite but their mooing will keep you awake) that's minutes from Lake Fork. Friday cruise-in, Fish Saturday and fish fry Saturday night.

The locations suggested thus far are:
Broken Arrow, Ok
Kellers (Burger Shop), Dallas

Don't camp or fish.

If you decide to go to Okla., take a look at their posts for the region.

They don't have any clubs. 8O

I'll bet they'd join up!

We're racking up the OK requests. A total of two suggestions for OK. Let's leave the location open for a week. Please send any other suggestions. At this point, there will be about six Elkies on the trip. It's been suggested that if we decide on OK, to post our trip on the OK forum.

Maybe something a little more centrally located Waco maybe?

Just an idea.

Be happy to head south instead of north. Give us a few suggestions as to where to go and what to do. I live NE of Dallas, so I don't know much about what to do/ where to go south of DFW.

Here's a suggestion for those who REALLY want to go south: we could head to the coast for some seafood. Maybe down to Corpus Christi. Maybe we could get a block of rooms beachside with a group discount.

How about Fredricksburg, TX?

Centrally located and fairly easy for the Houston folks to get to. Beautiful scenery and great places to eat.

I looked at the web site for Fredericksburg (sp?) that someone suggested. By the web site, it says the town is in "Hill Country" Centrally located, scenic, good food ... sounds like the makings for a cruise in. Is anyone opposed to Fredericksburg? There are bed and breakfast facilites to stay over night. As someone recommended, we should be able to get a block of rooms for a discounted rate. What's your thougths?

I suggested it and I'm in.

Lets get a date set and get driving!

If everybody thinks we should have special gear for the occasion, let me know and I'll make something up.

I have an embroidery business and will supply some hats at no charge.

I am also ready for the date. Lets go! Come on! :D I need a weekend off and I mean off somewhere else! 8)

We can have a batch of N. Texans (Locals) meet someplce central to D/FW and form a convoy or what ever. Perhaps we can pick up more as we go south. That would be a good Pic too. :D

I can use another hat too!

Don't e-mail post it. I would like to do the same thing we can try to maybe get some deal on this. I'm there! I don't know about everyone else but a good safe location. I have a lot invested in a Truck that is now starting to get really popular, I'd like to feel like my money / investment will be safe while I sleep. And me! :D

Lets tally, get a head count ASAP! So far 3!

Well it sound like this trip is going to happen. I was holding back until some one suggested a date I could accommodate. June the 10th sounds good to me. If I can get this TPI unit installed and running by then I'll talk the wife into a weekend trip. Does anyone have a tentative count yet? Harald K

Including you, 4 so far. Hopefully we'll pick up some more as it closes in on the time. I'd like to see as many as possible and all of the Texas Owners would be great and if OK owners would like to join us that is cool too. But, I am not coordinating it ether it is sort of doing it on its own it looks like. With Help from John.

Someone had to lay down a concrete date.

Ok i just booked a room for saturday night the 11th at the Best Western also.

We can't leave here till early Saturday and have to come back Sunday.

But me and my wife are IN for sure.

Anyone else from this area or along the way who may want to join up please advise!

Tenative route for us is I-10 to 71 in Columbus then 71 to Austin and then 290 into Fredricksburg.

I'll be leaving D/FW area in the morning on Friday and will also stay Friday and Saturday night.

If there are those who'd like to have a cruise to there lets arrange it now / very shortly. I think it would be cool to have a long line of El Caminos together also in case someone happes to have an issue on the way perhaps we can get that taken care of between all of us. Pluse it seems that it would be safer, driving wise, to have several vehicles travel together.

Any thoughts on this?

I would suggest that if your are coming from anywhere north such as Dallas or Fort Worth that you consider coming down highway 281 this is a great road not at all the delay trap of I 35 it is also a very scenic route. The turnoff to Fredericksburg is clearly marked and you also get to go thru Marble Falls, Johnson City and some other quaint towns along the way. You will find that there are a lot of people along that rout who appreciate El Caminos and older cars in general. The only thing you will find on I 35 is a great potential for becoming involved in an accident.

Just a tad south of I20 in Ft.Worth and just east of I35W. I don't have a cell phone. Everman is the town.

Looks like to me, that we'd / I would do good to go out I35 to 67 In Alvarado, take that W. To 281, if that is the route to go, then make a "West" on 290 just South, it looks like, of Austin.

If There are others going from D/FW area we could stage in Grandprairie or Arlington. Or I can just pick you up on 67 as you go through Alvarado if no one else from D/FW is going but us two. And that looks like its just us so far!

Hey guys, anyone else from D/FW going on the Cruise / get together in Fredericksburg?!?! Come on lets hear a head count!

Actually five so far.

Saturday seems to be the day when most will show up. So if you wanted to head out on Saturday Morning and only be there Saturday/Saturday evening and Sunday then we could also do that. I'd like to see this happen and I'd like to have more participation but it seems that everyone has an excuses. Or a reason not to be there. But Reg. director Harold, us three and Robert More Boar Admin, have indicate they'd go on Saturday.

Lets see how this shapes up. Could be more joining later as time gets closer. It's going to be a nice drive one way or another and a chance to get away. I'm still in and So far, for sure Saturday and if enough join us Friday I'll leave here.

I haven't had a vacation in over 5 years. I'm going! :D

gwwtexas

Ditto on going down on 281 and bypassing I35. It may take you 30 minutes to an hour longer but the view is so much better. I used to travel the Hill Country for Kawasaki and used 281 all the time. The small amount of time lost is well worth it.

If you are coming into Round Rock / Austin anywhere near rush hour 281 will probably be quicker. several nice roadside stops along the way for a picnic if you are so inclined.

Have a great time!!

 :( Ok lets try this, there is a great show in Austin "Texas Classic" it is open to all cars regardless of condition the last two times I was there were two El Camino's one 70 and my 83. This show is held mid September and is always a great deal of fun sponsored by Rudy's BBQ. Since we have plenty of time to plan it from now mark the calendar for sometime between the 8th and the 15th of September and hold yourself to it. This should be enough time to fix that front end, buy new tires tune it up and charge the AC. I can't believe I busted my butt to finish this TPI conversion and now you guys are all bailing on me. There is no way I could go down there with just me and the wife too much good food. Mark the calendar and convince others. I'm starting to think that some of you don't even have an El Camino and just want to post to this site. Out of all the people in this region Robert and I are the only ones who have actually met. We can do better than that. Hell by September the gas might even go down a penny or two. Harald K

Hey Harald,

I might be game for that if I am not in Korea at that time. I would have to find somewhere to drop the kids off and ratchet strap the wife in the camino (she hates riding in that thing) but it sounds fun.
