My 84 El Caminois acting very stupid. when we went to start up the car at 10:30 my sister pumped the gas and started up the car but when she put the car in gear it moves without touching the gas pedal. she got it up the driveway by controlling her speed with the brake. we parked the car up front and turned it off then on again but the problem persists in drive and in reverse. could it be because of the throttle or choke is sticking? any help would be appreciated A.S.A.P.

Pull the air cleaner and check the throttle return spring to see if is broken. DO NOT DRIVE IN THIS CONDITION. Could be as simple as grime in the throttle linkage...some can be freed up with WD-40, but better to replace if rust or corrosion exists. Best thing is get under that air cleaner and make sure there isn't any obstruction.. I have seen animal nests that can cause binding as well as fires. GOOD LUCK!

sometimes my choke sticks and will do that, try giving it a little gas to free it from the choke (in park of course)

how many RPM's is it running at when it does this?

Sounds like, not being there, the choke is working pretty well. The idea is to press the gas down all the way at least once to set the choke and get the carb to the "Fast Idle Cam" as the engine warms up then a slight tap on the gas and the fast idle cam will disengage stepping down the idle speed to normal operating temp idle speed. Or "Curb Idle Speed" around 600 to 800 RPM. With A/C it could be 1000 to 1,100 RPM with he AC on.
