Hello, its been awhile since i've posted somethin, but i've been busy with college stuff. well anyways. i have a 5th gen 85 elky

this summer i plan on doing the following

put mustang 351 into it
shave the door handles
replace rear quarter panels
put 81 style grill on the front of it
replace bottom panels of both doors
put dual exhausts on it
replace the interior
buy a cover for the bed, toneau preferrably
and get new bumpers

what i need help with is, does anyone know who the best people would be to get door panels, bumpers, and interors from? any websites would be nice to have. i used to have all the ones i would need, but after reformatting my computer, i forgot to save them ughh! also, who, from experience, would know the cheapest people to purchase rear quarter panels from? thanks to michigan weather, mine are beyond saving, so i might as well start afresh

also, my brother has a 72 monte carlo that is a cream/pearl color. he's off in iraq right now so i can't ask him what the color is. does anyone know what it might be? i'm thinking of painting my car the same color with a black/silver interior. opinions?

thanks

Don't take this wrong guy, but........ A Ford Engine in a Chevrolet, isn't that a bit unusual? Where is the advantage? Because my last time slips two years ago were only 10.22s I have no real right to say this but, I'd smoke Mustangs now. Didn't you ever hear "Ford is Breakfast for Chevy's!" ? and a 351 at that! Which one! :D

So you also going with a AOD? Sure a screwy combo, well not for a Ford. Seems like a lot of extra work for no aparent gain. Do you just know how to work on Fords only or what is the deal anyway?

Bubba, I wouldn't put a Ford in my Driveway, sorry to all who own one, no offence intended really! Much less even consider sticking one of their engines in my El Camino. Come on! Get some guts stick in a Chevy Power Plant they have so many execlent power plants to choose from!

We don't even have a Ford Power Plant in our 32 Ford Roadster! It does have a Ford 9" now but even that is not actually a Ford Rear End it just looks like a Ford 9", sort of, its a Strange Fab 9 so, nothing in it is actually a Ford except the body shell. Which is actually a Ford Original. Our Small block 355 produces over 1200 Hp. @ just over 5s in the 1/4 the first run this season.

Sorry I know people own them and for what ever reason like them but man a Ford Engine in an El Camino. NOW, I have heard it all! :D To each, their own.

Good Luck with that, really!

I'm sorry I got all cought up in giving you a hard time I forgot what the question was....

The El Camino Store, EC Parts and Honest Charley's Custom Classics all should have stuff your looking for and possibly Lauren Engineering.

haha as to why? well my 262 v6 that is in it right now is slowly dieing on me, and my brother in law's friend owns a 9.00 mustang that he races. He asked if i was interested in putting a spare, brand new 351 mustang engine into it. i am weary as well of having a ford engine in my chevy, but the parts needed and everything have been purchased. Also my brother in law is a qualified mechanic, as well as his friend. So pretty much, the engine and parts will cost me nothing at all, the only cost i will have is the beer and pizza for afterwards (not during haha) but thanks for those companies names. any more opinions would be welcome

Don't get me wrong, free is always the best price, but I'd never even consider putting a ford engine into a Chevy. If he really wants to give it away, I'm sure you could find someone to buy it if i's really complete. Then you can go get a 350 to put in it.

Why don't you sell the Elky and buy a Mustang; that makes more sense to me.

In high school shop, one of the guys I knew put a 351 ford motor in a chevelle...it looked really odd (the engine in the car, not the car itself). Never knew what became of that car....hopefully someone bought it and put a mouse/rat motor back in it.

i've never liked the way the newer mustangs look. and i like my el camino. i want to fix this one so it will last me until i find a nice 70 or 71 elky. but i agree, i don't like the idea of a ford engine in my chevy, but i do like the power the mustang engine puts out.
