: Do you want to have local NECOA events in Michigan?
I'm not feeling any love here guys.
A few months back, I arranged for an NECOA EXCLUSIVE car show at the Detroit Science Center, and had to cancel because no one wanted to set up there.
I was the lone NECOA entry at an INDOOR car show April 1. Not only was I the only NECOA member to enter the show, but no other club member bothered to stop by as a spectator.
I was able to get NECOA in as a late entry for the STATE OF MICHIGAN Parade, but had to cancel because I only received 1 "Yes" and 2 "Maybe" from our membership.
I also canceled our May 1 Tailgate Party Meet-n-greet & Swap meet, because only ONE member said they would be there.
I don't mind setting up events for our membership, but only if our membership wants to attend events. So you guys tell me.... Do you want to have local NECOA events in Michigan?
I've already cancelled our entry in the State of Michigan Parade, but we have the opportunity to still get into (a much smaller) parade in Bellville, Michigan, Satuday, May 28, 2005. Should I pursue this?
ppilotmike 04-25-2005, 01:59 PM My elky is not street worthy yet but I would like to meet other elky guys in the state and look at there cars. Mike
PS I couldn't figure out how to vote on the tailgate party post, I guess I should have posted something or private messaged you.
Bobs 81 04-25-2005, 06:51 PM Well I would enjoy a tailgate meet-n-greet. I'll bet we all have a few extra parts laying around we'd like to get rid of or swap. I know I do. These EC's are getting harder and harder to find parts for and it won't get any better.
While my 'project car is far from done, and I wouldn't enter it in anything, I'm now to the point I can drive it.
You never know what gems you might find at a meet. I've been looking in all the boneyards around here for a drivers side power window switch CLIP. The local dealer said 'no got' and who knows who might have one?
And although some parts are to big to drive 300 miles (round trip) with, I had already started to make a list of some of my 'stock'
Let's start getting it together guys/gals, these meet-n-greets can be a great thing. Think of all the tips & tricks you can pick up or, better yet, give to some of the 'newbees'.

rombisoid 04-25-2005, 07:05 PM I'm getting ready to pluck the body off of my 71 this weekend. Doubt it wuld be ready for any events this year. I have ALLOT of work to do yet. But as far as meet / greet, I'm for that, as long as I'm not working that day. I work every 5th Saturday and sometimes in between to cover people that are off. I was also palnnning on coming down for the free "brats" this weekend, weather permitting. I'm planning on a drunk-ex Saturday night tho because a guy that works for me is retiring next month and we're throwing him a party.
Well, theres my schedule if anyone was wondering :)
hobartmulletguy 04-25-2005, 07:06 PM Yeah Michigan would be great, just far enough from @ home in the region, & I could learn some stuff from you older, smarter guys. I would definately go. But maybe after that, If you guys like Grand Funk Railroad and there are some IN & KY guys missing out on the MI fun, unless everyone else is from Michagain. Grand Funk is playin @ the raceway park (Indianapolis) in july,we could do something there.just suggest
COME ON REGION 9! GET MORE GUYS TO GO SO WE CAN DO SOMETHING!
Das Elky 04-25-2005, 07:32 PM I would not mind attending occasional EL Camino events if they were close by, however most of my free weekends are spent attending Corvette events. I am a lifetime member of the National Corvette Museum (25 mi away), and also a museum ambassador for one of the two corvette clubs I belong to.
I purchased my "elky" as a third vehicle. Before my recent move from Orlando to KY, my daily driver was my 99 Corvette convertible. After the move, I wanted a vehicle to drive in bad weather, and to be able to carry necessary items for my 3.25 acres.
Thanks,
gmc caballero 04-26-2005, 06:54 PM Steve has asked for support for the Saint Clair Shores Memorial Day parade. I know this is the kick off weekend for summer but I am willing to make some sacrifices and show up. Hopefully, we can get enough interest to have a showing in the parade.
Is there a central location that everyone finds convenient to get a meet and greet type show at. I know on my side of Detroit there is a couple meets that would work out well. Metro Beach has a car show coming up soon. Also Gilbraltor Trade Center has several outdoor shows.
Let Steve and I know your thoughts on this and lets see if we can get something going.

Thanks Dale, but as it turns out the director of the St. Clair Shores parade is not returning my calls or emails.
I have however been in contact with a much smaller parade in Bellville (just South and East of Detroit Metro Airport). They would love to have us for their parade, Saturday, May 28.
I have the registration forms, and just need to have members committed to the event.

No parade for this baby, YET !!!!
(Let me know if that link don't work :))
gmc caballero 04-27-2005, 03:50 PM OK Steve
As long as the weather cooperates you got my commitment. I hate taking the car through downtown and the construction zone by the airport, but we need to show support. How about the rest of you? Any one else willing to step up.

Bobs 81 04-27-2005, 05:15 PM When my project no longer has a black front clip, two-tone body and a primered rr quarter, Bad rear bumper,AND the interior is done, I'll get in line :-D Till then I'll have to settle for meetngreets/swaps.
The daily driver (stock 78) is OK, but some small rust on rear quarter and paint badly oxidized.(red) Neither good enough to 'show/parade',but one day.......

gmc caballero 04-27-2005, 07:41 PM Bob, I can appreciate that. It took me a few years to get the car in the condition it is in today.
Over the past few years though, I have seen several finished cars around the area at local shows or on the road. You wouldn't think that it would be that hard to get half a dozen guys together with their cars for a parade. Camaro owners, T'bird owners, M'stang owners, etc. seem to get together all the time. But it seems like Elky owners don't want to get together as a group with other owners except on a one on one basis. Don't know why, especially since we are a very unique bunch. Maybe I am dead wrong on my observations, but I don't think so.
What do the rest of you think?
Drifter789 04-27-2005, 08:46 PM As soon as I can get myself motivated to finish my Elky, I wouldn't mind showing it off. The Meet and Greet sounded interesting but it was scheduled for the same day as the car show in Frankenmuth.
I hope it doesn't sound like I was making excuses.
Dave
Any 3rd Generation Owners out there?
CHVYPWR 04-27-2005, 08:55 PM I would have loved to attend some of the past events but, my Elky has been in the process of quite a few upgrades since last Sept. As of now, I have one side of body mounts done, carpet and seats are out, T5 swap not quite ready yet, and the new Vortec heads and new cam arn't tuned yet. I'm hoping within the next 2 weeks I'll have it ready to roll. I was wanting to be done by the 1st of May for our local "Dust Off" car show, just not going to happen :(
Don't get too depressed over the lack of interest, it's still very early in the car show season. I'd make more shows if I didn't work a swing shift and 2 weekends a month.

According to the responses, we have myself and Dale. I need to turn in the registration form this week. If we can't muster 5 Elkys to attend, I'll need to cancel this event too.
elkyphreak 05-08-2005, 04:51 PM Come on people it doesn't have to be perfect to enjoy a trip or a parade,
the thing of it is that we have a unique opportunity to get out there and let people know that the old cars have more class and personality than all of this new cookie cutter stuff that they are making now.
PROUD TO BE AN ELKY OWNER AND READY TO SHOW IT EVEN THOUGH MINE ISN"T DONE!

It's not a matter of not showing because it's not done, it's a matter of it's not drivable, lol! Just need more time :(
