: Correct dash trim color for 82 SS

I recently purchased a 82 "elky" SS. However, a previous owner repainted the vehicle and installed an interior from a later model Monte Carlo SS. The dash trim is currently black with red striping.

My question is concerning the correct color for a 82 SS. Is the trim the wood grain like the conquista, black with silver striping, or is it the black with red?

I would eventually like to restore the vehicle, and would like the dash to have the correct trim.

Thanks,

szonk

How do you know that your Elky is an SS in the first place ?

The three piece woodgrain dash trim was a standard feature in 82. If your El Camino is an SS there should also be a "Super Sport" emblem on the woodgrain trim above the glove box.

How do you know that your Elky is an SS in the first place ?From the 21M paint code (blue lower trim for SS) on the cowl tag, and from the dealer invoice I got from GM.

As I stated, a previous owner repainted the vehicle and replaced the original interior with one from a later model Monter Carlo SS. Therefore, the original emblem and trim is not there.

I do know that the vehicle is a true SS from the 21M paint code on the cowl tag (original blue lower paint code only on SS), and also I have a copy of the original dealer invoice showing it to be an SS. The invoice also shows the options originally on the car, which will help when it comes time to restore.

Gary, how were you able to get a copy of the original dealer invoice on your Elcamino? Jim

I sent an email to GM (can't remember the address, but found it here on the forum), and they responded with the instructions on how to get it. It was a xerox copy, but it shows all the options that were originally on the vehicle.

They used to be free but now they cost $50.

Read this thread to find out how to get yours. (http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=11660)
