I am putting in an overhead console out of a 95-99 chevrolet suburban in my 79 El Camino. Has anyone done this or am I a first?

I've been trying to get similar info myself. Last I read on this site, someone was going to install an S10 overhead console to match his S10 floor console, but I haven't seen pics or details yet.

That Suburban console should look great.

I have one also waiting to go in. At this point you'll beat me to it.

Post pictures, it'll make it easier for me.

Are you both going to use a Suburban console? How did you rule others out and select that one?

The Suburban, Silverado, Sierra and few others have the same over head consoles. A short one and a long one (about 28"). I decided on it because I liked the look of it and it looks like the length is right for an Elky. Its going to need some glas work to get the top part of it to match the roof line correctly but my body guy should be able to handle it with no problems. I don't have any pictures of mine but here is one on the ever popular ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33695&item=7970875697&rd=1)

Thanks guys,

That console would look just fine if installed well, which I am sure you would.

As far as fitting to the roof line, it is tempting to try it on my own and possibly do a little modifying. I've just about decided to build a floor console from scratch too.

This site on fiberglass work, while not professional, is quite informative.

Also this eBay course may be a good investment.

What the heck, I often have a lot of spare time somewhere between about 3 and 5 in the morning. Take care.

I chose the long console that don't fit (gotta cut the dome light portion off), becuase of how square it is. The body is relatively square and so is everything in the interior. I try to keep everything flowing like it came from the factory, while making it better. It just seems to work out well.
