On a 72 with cowl induction you should be able to run pretty much anything you like short of a tunnel ram intake...............Dan

right! you can even run one of the small blowers from Holley/Weiand and still clear the hood.

just remember the 'shape' of your cowl induction (assuming its a functioning unit) has a ROUND hole for the air cleaner, and so multi-carb units may cause problems with oval style air cleaners and things like that. But if your hood just has the 'hump' without the functioning flap and air cleaner hole underneath, then you can run most multi-carb setups as well...

I dont have to worry about the rubber seal around the air cleaner?

I dont have to worry about the rubber seal around the air cleaner?

I run a 14" chrome (standard type) air cleaner on my hood, and I just removed the rubber since it only matches up with the factory-style air cleaner anyway. You could do that or just see if your air cleaner fits inside the rubber and doesnt block off any flow to it, then leave it on...

There are also a few 'low profile' or reduced height air cleaners out there if you shop around, and those could perhaps be used on a high-rise manifold (not a tunnel ram, as Dan said) if clearance was needed.
