I have changed the oil and filter in my 1985 305 and the dipstick hardly registers any oil??? The part number on my dipstick is 10190942- which is a stock GM stick. It is on the passenger side and the approx. length is 32". Would someone please advise me of the length of their stock 305 dipstick and whether or not they have had this issue with not registering the proper oil level....your input would be much appreciated as this has been a puzzle to me since I purchased the Elky.

Here is what is in my'85. Part #14094757 W. The dip stick is 26-1/8th inches long from the bottom tip to the top of the sleeve. Maybe your dip stick is too long (lol) and is bottoming out, curving up and not reading the correct level. I have had this Elky for 19 years and the dip stick part number is an original part.

Thanks for the info Doug! There is no way a 26-1/8th inch dipstick would reach my oil pan. My '85 305 would need a stick approx. 33 and 3/4" long to give me a true oil level reading. All of the "stock" dipsticks for sale seem to be much shorter. Evidently my stick (10190942) is not the original- is listed as a 350 dipstick BUT I have a 305??? Is your 14094757 on the passenger side? I have found no obstruction that would cause an incorrect reading- I have guided a steel "snake" of the appropriate dimensions into the dipstick tube and that is where I'm coming up with my 33" estimate.

Would you be so kind as to physically describe your dipstick tube and stick (better yet if anyone could post a digital pic)- my tube is black and on the passenger side- the stick has a yellow plastic ring on the end. I have studied pictures of stock '85 305 engine compartments and see the dipstick in the same location (passenger side) but with what consistently appears to be a white, hooked handle. I can't see the detail of the actual tube. I hope to locate a similar vehicle locally to actually see the stock configuration as I am completely baffled as to this dipstick issue- any further ideas from you all? Thanks in advance for sharing your collective expertise.

Light gray hooked handle on the passenger side. Nothing has been replaced on my '85 such as the oil pan and dip stick tube. Maybe you have a different dip stick tube.
