I have officially sold my 1986 El Camino.

But worry not! Because not for long will I be without another El Camino.....

For I traded my 86 for a 77!

It will be a project that I do believe I will keep you updated on. Just needs headers and a paint job. Smile Long live the ELKY!

Farewell for now. I will be back in a bigger, badder, more hardassed Elky. I promise.

Good for you. You now have a true muscle car. Please post any questions about parts, etc. here and I/we will help.

Good choice, what's the drive train?

Yeah, just paint and headers...

That's what we all said when we bought ours... Happy

The greatest thing about owning a 4th gen is that nobody
seems to know what it is. They can tell a 3rd gen or a 5th gen
but everybody seems to think the 4th gens are rancheros.

I almost got into a fight with a 5th gen owner I worked with over it.
He used to call my 74 the "Rancheroooooo"

4th Gens do seem to be gaining popularity though. I see more and more
of them in varying states of restoration.

I've thought about selling mine many times but just can't do it. It would be like selling my own child at this point. I would (and have) put myself in financial stress to keep it up.

Congrats and you know we're all here to lend a hand!

Happy

AND I'll add ONE MORE 4th gener to that list! Congradulations. 4th gens can be so frustrating to track down parts for, but SOOO rewarding when you do. Keep photos comming, befores, during's, and the all important afters.

So today I went down and picked it up. WHOA rust bucket.

First project is getting sheet metal and fabrication.

Ok, here's what I KNOW right now about the car.

350 small block, 275 likely horsepower. Does NOT run atm, fuel issues.
Quadratoilet carb. Lunati Cam.
Turbo 400 tranny. Stock rear end. 275-50-r15's in rear, 245-60-r15s in the front.

What else.........so much stuff right now.

I am off to cry now. I sold my baby and need time to recoil.

Which, since you guys are pretty much experts in the field.....

What gears do I have, where the hell are the brights(kidding, just checking you), and what's the best way about dropping a transmission pan and changing the filter?

Luke, On the rear end axel tube, passenger side, front, aprox 2 to 6 inches from differential, you should find a code stamped in the tube. You may have to clean some crud to find it. That code will decifer what you have for ( factory ) gearing in that rearend, provided someone has not changed the Ring and Pinion at some point. Transmission is easy, lift the Elky, remove the pan bolts & pan. Then remove filter and install new in reverse opperation. Be sure to have a drain pan, a large dia. one. As the fluid drains as you remove the pan. It can be messey, a lift would also help, but can be done with jack stands on the ground. And the BRIGHT'S are opperated by the button on the left drivers floor board, but you do have to have the light switch on the dash pulled on. ( he-he) I can try and be funny also. lol

Well haha! I will find out tomorrow about the gearing ratio in the rear. Rather, today(saturday....it's 1226 am here).

I'm actually kind of happy that I sold the 86, but shoot....I'll miss the 13 second quarter miles. The burning rubber at EVERY light that I came to pretty much. Leaving those ricers in the dust 'cuz they need to be.

Got a few more updates. This one will make you go (what the hell?!).

There is a 2x4(Yes, a TWO BY FOUR) in the rear drivers side SPRING! Huh!? I'll take it out tomorrow.

The car was once owned by Warner Brothers. It was in a movie about potheads and 1970's highschool life. (70's, go figure).

Windshield is cracked.

Not original seat.......Gonna rip that out. Take the carpeting out. Gonna take the rusted smaller panel off the bed and replace it with wood right now...then gonna fiberglass it.

*Sigh* Gonna put the battery on the charger tomorrow morning. Then get a cup of gasoline and try to start it by pouring down the carb. This will be FUN.

Then, next thursday, gonna have my mechanic(who sold me the 86 in the first place!) pick it up and fix it. Take that back, I'll send it to the El Camino expert in Sebastian. This dude will do anything for cash or pot. I'll go with the cash, haha.

So, anyone know where I can get some cheap swivel buckets?

Good for you! I totally love those model year cars. I've got two 76 Malibus that I'm trying to restore but I've ran short of time and money to devote to my 77 Elky. Going to concentrate on the Malibus and my 86 Elky insted. The boss (as in wife) told me I've got to get rid of the 74 Elky parts car and the 77.

I've got some number of extra front finders, hoods, doors, bumpers and some misc. new and used parts I've accumulated that I would like to find a good home for.

If you need anything before I strip and send to the chrusher, let me know and perhaps we can get together on prices.

PM me @ crgoodyear@suddenlink.net - I read my e-mail once a week whether I need to or not. LOL
