You probably already have a tech article with info on this somewhere. ---I havent even had an Elky dash apart,so is it fairly straitforward to exchange one guage 'pod' for another? Are there compatible connections for an 87 in an 84? Except I'm assuming I need to run new wires for the 4 guages I will now have, with new sensors? Sure will be nice to monitor whats actually going on in my 84 for a change! _________________ '79 Chevy Corvette,350 sbc- '78 Olds Cutlass Supreme,350 sbo'- 99 Mitsubishi Galant,3.0 V6- '84 Chevy El Camino Conquista,305 sbc

The temp switch located on the left bank under the exhaust manifold between spark plugs 1 and 3 will need to be replaced with a temp sensor.
An oil pressure sensor will need to be installed in the plugged hole above the oil filter. Cut the tan wire fairly close the the oil pressure switch located nearly under the distributor and pull it out of the split plastic harness enough to reach the new oil pressure sensor. Install (crimp) a female spade connector on this wire the size of the male connector on the oil pressure sensor.
You might need to use a couple of brass fittings to get the oil pressure sensor positioned to clear everything. I used some liquid tape to cover the wire cut on the short end on the pressure switch. There is no additional wiring required to complete this job.
Use the search feature on this forum if you need additional help with switching out the gauge pod. This mod has been covered very well.

I read the article by JimIsbell and have changed out my instrument cluster and all is well except for being able to connect up the engine side of the tach cable. My el camino is an '87 Choo Choo with the standard LG4 305. It has the standard distributor with the separate coil, not the integrated coil in the distributor as with the HEI style ones.
I have looked and looked but can not find a connector on the engine wiring harness for the tach cable to plug into? The HEI style ditributors have the tach connector built right into the cap. Are the LG4 305 engine wiring harness's different than the L69 305 wiring harness's in the Monte SS's?
I also looked for any articles on the electrical portion of this process that Jim refers too but can not find them either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I answered you question completely in the above thread. BTW, you don't need to ask the same question in multiple threads. Have a little patience and someone will help you out. _________________ Ernie
