Hey Everyone,
I bought an 80 Elky a few weeks ago. The guy that I bought it from just had it painted and the factory SS stickers/logos were put on it. I asked him if it was a *real* SS and he said he ran the vin and it was. Well, I went here
http://elcaminocentral.com/Necoa/VIV&Trim_Info.htm
but it shows nothing about whether any el camino is an SS or not. So I'm thinking that the vin doesn't even show if the car was an SS and it must be something else.
Can anyone show or tell me how to I.D. a true SS?
BTW, there are no stickers left on the inside of the door.

Thanks
Darrin

Welcome to ECC, Darrin. Unfortunately you may need to come up with a build sheet to know for sure. Some fifth gens had the RPO code for the SS on the cowl tag. It may have been only on later models but you could look.

Look for the Z15. (use of Ernie's cowl tag is without permission but I don't think he minds all that much)
Ask the previous owner if he ever found a build sheet. I had an 80, the sheet was on top of the headliner.

Thanks Canted,
I think Im screwed. He put a brand new steel cowl on it. I pulled the headliner out last week as a matter of fact to fix some sagging material.
Oh well, Ill keep looking around but I don't think Ill ever know.

take care
